The immediately hired postdoctoral researcher (experimentalist) will work for our optical integrated devices in ultra-high speed electro-optic polymer/glass waveguide modulators, under the supervision of Prof Yasufumi Enami. Responsibility will include mentoring master and undergraduate students, and executing programs involving the design, fabrication, and measurement.
Researcher who experimentally works for polymer EO modulators, waveguide integrated devices, applications based on the EO modulators, LiDAR, Quantum Communications, or Biophotonic Sensors is also considered.
We specially focus on ultra-broadband EO modulator devices, and their integrated applications and packaging. The candidate should have creative ideaindependently to solve problem with self-motivated circumstance.
The candidate can design and fabricate >150GHz EO modulators, based on his/her own idea. Technical responsibilities will also involve calculations and fabrication of RF electrode and sol-gel silica waveguide using a photolithographic process (mask aligner) in clean room, RF sputtering of metal, and other materials, and RIE dry etching in my process laboratory.
Candidate must measure the EO response and EE response of the fabricated EO modulators, using Anritsu110GHz vector network analyzer (VNA) and 110GHz lightwave component analyzer (LCA) in my optical measurement laboratory.
My laboratory has every optical tool such as an optical spectrum analyzer, lases, detectors, optical benches, a WYKO interferometric microscope, ASE sources, fiber fusing splicers (SM, PM), EDFAs (high and low), fiber optics, and a Metricon prism coupler. The process for devices also includes the dicing and >100GHz packaging, with our design and outsourcing company.
Skill for photomask design, RF sputtering, electron-beam lithography, RF electronics, RF probes, RIE, ICP, Asher, and dicing machine is plus.
The simulation skill for RF electrode (Ansys HFSS and Keysight EMPro), and optical waveguide (Rsoft or optiwave, BPM, FDTD), AutoCad, Mathematica etc is plus.
Industrial experience for integrated devices and optical devices is also appreciated and considered.
We use observation tools for the devices and thin films using XRD, SEM and AFM, TEM, optical throughput measurement of the waveguide devices, and EO coefficient measurement for the poled EO polymers, and Vpi measurements for the EO polymer modulators.
Candidate should have strong background in Optical Waveguide Devices, milli-wave RF electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Physics. Ph.D. obtained in US or Europe is highly evaluated. Japanese researcher is also accepted. Researchers who have worked for theory and calculation cannot be accepted.
Self-motivated worker and hard worker is highly preferred. Candidate should have a track record of writing papers and should have knowledge of preparing and submitting oral and written presentations at conferences.
This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. Salary depends on candidate’s experience and research record which is reasonable for living in Japan.
Researcher mainly works in my lab and travels to my collaborator's lab. Japanese language skill is not required. In this case, communication in English may be needed with other Japanese.
