The general area of interest is x-ray phase-contrast imaging (XPCI), with an emphasis on high-speed imaging studies of deformation and failure of materials under dynamic loading. Research will include experimental studies using synchrotron sources and a novel high-brightness source under construction for our laboratory. A strong emphasis will be placed on novel computational and theoretical approaches for extraction of quantitative structural information from dynamic XPCI images.
Experience with experimental, theoretical, and/or computational aspects of x-ray phase contrast imaging, or coherent optics more generally, is required. The strongest candidates for this position will also have experience with time-resolved studies of materials using synchrotron radiation or dynamic failure of materials.
