The Tickle College of Engineering's Innovative Computing Laboratory (ICL) is inviting applications for the position of Chief of Operations. ICL is a research center in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. This position is a Limited Duration appointment.

Reporting to the ICL Director, this position oversees the day-to-day management of the administrative and technical services operations of ICL, and provides fiscal oversight including all administrative, human resources, and technical services responsibilities of ICL. The position is delegated significant responsibilities and authorities on behalf of the Center's director, and requires a high degree of attention to detail, technical ability, trust, dependability, and reliability.

The position will be responsible for strategic planning in helping to ensure funding for the grant supported staff. The performance of this position can directly affect the College of Engineering, the University of Tennessee, sponsored funding agencies, and the University's relationships with outside constituencies. The breadth of responsibilities is such that decisions can have a far-reaching and long-term impact on the continuing success of the Center by affecting its ability to meet fiscal objectives, maintain fiscal and administrative integrity, establish and sustain positive working relationships with internal and global external constituencies, support and assist faculty and principal investigators with regard to the financial matters of sponsored research, etc., acquire and report information and data associated with academic and research programs, comply with relevant federal and state regulations and statute as well as university policies and procedures, and to strategically plan by analyzing the long-range impact of decisions.

Primary duties include:

• Management of the administrative and technical operations of the Center, including supervision and work direction of 6 staff
• Business transaction approvals
• Pre-award/proposal development facilitation
• Data management and information acquisition involving grant finances
• Ensuring compliance with University and Federal policies
• Oversight of post-award management functions
• Facilitation of large workshops and meetings, both international and domestic
