Job Summary: Connecticut College is conducting a national search for an Assistant Director for Facilities Operations. The Assistant Director, Facilities Management will manage, direct and coordinate daily facilities and operations services within the Facilities Department. Provide professional facility planning for corrective and preventive maintenance, deferred maintenance, and asset renewal for campus facilities and utility systems. Provide leadership and guidance to facilities trades and functions. Act a liaison between various departments within the College. Provide direct support to the Executive Director of Facilities Management and Campus Planning and collaborate with the Assistant Director of Planning and Construction to plan and manage the College's capital renewal and replacement plan to align with the overall strategic goals of the College. General Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide staff assistance to the Facility and Land Management Committee in the review and update of the Master Plan
Provide leadership and direction for the overall operation of facilities management
Provide input and review the project program requirements prior to commencing the design
Provide leadership and direction for the overall operation of facilities management including building maintenance, utility systems including power plant operation, event support, and department purchasing.
Establish priorities, plan and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the department of the building maintenance shop, mechanical maintenance shops, and power house.
Develop and revise policies pertaining to the provisions of services (e.g. priorities, scheduling, nature of services provided, degree to which service is provided). Meet with department managers and supervisors to review the activities of the department and provide guidance and direction for the attainment of department goals and objectives.
Review work assignments, maintenance schedules, effectiveness of service programs, procedures and practices, and make improvements as needed; oversee the development and execution of the preventive maintenance program.
Required to be available outside of the College's normal administrative office hours.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in construction management, architectural, or mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or other related discipline or equivalent and relevant progressive experience in facilities, construction/project management required (10+ years).
Certification in: Facilities Management Credential (FMP), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Certified Professional Constructor (CPC), Certified Facilities Manager (CFM), or closely related certification.
Strong knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of computer aided drafting and Microsoft Office
Knowledge of OSHA and other applicable federal, state and local laws
Strong analytical skills
Knowledge of utility system operation, construction and maintenance
Knowledge of management practices and principles
Able to lead and teach others
Well-organized, able to work under pressure
Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community
High integrity needed to handle confidential information
