Cornell Engineering's Marketing and Communications team leads the development, execution and assessment of a comprehensive and cohesive communication and marketing strategy. The team is regularly charged with shaping College messaging and branding, supporting the dean and the college's schools and departments in communicating consistently and effectively, and working with the University Relations department to proactively ensure that the College receives local, national, and international attention as a leading college of engineering.
Cornell communicators share a mission to enhance and preserve the university's brand and reputation as a top research institution and a leader in higher education, and to support and promote critical programs that serve the university's teaching, research, and public engagement mission.
Communication services are carried out through a matrixed organizational system in which University Relations houses the departments of News (Cornell Chronicle), Media Relations (pitching and servicing media requests), Brand (cornell.edu, multimedia production, brand management and governance), Strategic Communications (communications plans, key messaging, social media management), and Cornellians (digital alumni publication).
Communicators in colleges, schools, and units regularly collaborate with, and consult, University Relations departments. University Relations serves as a partner and resource for all college/unit communicators.

The New Media Specialist is responsible for developing compelling content that strengthens the College of Engineering's online presence.

Duties include:
* Works with the Director and Associate Director to develop a comprehensive social media strategy that elevates the College of Engineering's research and teaching missions, student and faculty excellence, etc.
* Plans, develops, and publishes content on college social media platforms.
* Ensures that content meets the highest-quality editorial and visual standards, SEO best practices, and alignment with communications priorities.
* Works with partners to help support promotion and coverage of campus events and ensure alignment of social media planning.
* Acts as a community manager, developing a community with strong affinity to the college by increasing engagement among followers and by connecting new users with resources to help them get involved in the life of the college.
* Monitors online sentiment and suggest solutions to better engage audiences and communicate key priorities.
* Manages college's online reputation by monitoring new media channels, refining existing metrics tools and evaluating new tools that might offer added insight into effective operation.
* Determine if and how the College and its units could most effectively leverage social media channels, including Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
* May help units to consolidate or sunset accounts that do not help to achieve college new media engagement goals.
* Works collaboratively with partners in University Relations, including going through the new media ambassador program and attending biweekly New Media editorial meetings led by New Media.
What We Need
* A Bachelor's Degree with 2 to 4 years of experience in communications/marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Professional or college-related experience in content creation for digital platforms, such as photography, video, multimedia, or design.
* Knowledge of image/video manipulation design tools and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite.
* Good judgment in sensitive and confidential situations and the ability to follow established protocols.
* Ability to work nonstandard business hours, when warranted by university events or issues.
* Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a busy environment with flexibility, accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.
* Ability to deliver and receive feedback with diplomacy, empathy, and confidence.
* Commitment to effectively work and interact respectfully in order to foster a diverse and inclusive environment.

Rewards and Benefits
* This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The position will typically allow for the flexibility to work remotely a maximum of 2 days per week at a location of employee's choosing within the United States. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
