Detailed Job Description The Advancement Systems, Data, and Analytics Team make transformation possible for the RIT community by effectively partnering with and empowering advancement stakeholders at the crossroads of strategy, systems, data, and analytics. As a valued member of that team, the Data Engineer will work closely with a diverse team to enhance our data and analytical capabilities to support divisional growth.
The Data Engineer will be relied upon to create programmatic solutions to support growing data integrations between our systems. This person will contribute to our reporting, ad hoc servicing, and business intelligence development efforts.
A successful Data Engineer will focus on opportunities to scale data and procedures through the identification of leverage points, programmatic abstractions, and process automation. This position requires advanced SQL skills, and there are opportunities to work with Python, Javascript, and other programming languages.
The ideal person in this role will be committed to continual learning about technology, the advancement industry, and the RIT community. Demonstrable appreciation for diversity and a willingness to develop personal leadership traits and team relationships are highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
Interact with a cross-functional work team to provide customer support to RIT's Division of University Advancement, and all users of RIT's donor management system and applications.
Collaborate with team members to create efficient and effective programming assets in Oracle/SQL.
Assist with the design and creation of new reports and business intelligence tools, including back-end data preparation.
Manage and respond to ad-hoc data requests from stakeholders with a focus on empowering end-users.
Recommend and implement innovative solutions to improve data access and operational efficiencies.
Actively engage in the development and continual improvement of reports, data extracts, and analytics as appropriate.
Work with team directors to propose, plan, and implement improvements to database processes and capabilities within the advancement donor management ecosystem.
Documentation of code, assets, automations, and processes
Provide appropriate technical support for current data systems and ETL processes
Monitor and participate in relevant listservs, training opportunities, user groups, publications, and professional groups to maintain a strong knowledge of developments in the fields of advancement, reporting, and database management
Create and maintain documentation in the internal wiki to support the Advancement division.

Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience:
Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science/Engineering, Statistics, or equivalent combination of education and experience in database management and data-driven programming and analysis.
At least five years of work experience in a programmatic and data-centric role where SQL was a central technology.
Skills;
Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the technology suite used by the Division of University Advancement.
SQL is required. Your applied programming skills also ideally include Python or Javascript.
Ability to review code and recommend improvements or standards to improve efficiency and simplify ongoing maintenance
At least intermediate technical skills related to database administration, meta-data layers, scripting languages, process engineering, automation, and reporting.
Adept in the ability to learn quickly, understand complex processes and procedures, apply creativity, and prioritize workload.
Able to query and manipulate large data sets using SQL, Microsoft Excel, or complementary tools
Competencies
Ability to thoughtfully design proof of concept tests following design thinking approach and minimum viable product concept
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present data and reports clearly, and write appropriate correspondence and documentation for variety of audiences.
Demonstrable personal leadership and management skills
Interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with a broad range of professional and technical staff.
Adherence to a high level of security and ethical standards when dealing with confidential information.
