POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Mechanical Engineering-Mechatronics Research Lab, to join a group that aims to develop intelligent mechatronic systems by applying data-driven learning techniques to mechanical systems. The focus of this position is on predictive maintenance of industrial manufacturing systems. A custom automatic scale model fault condition synthesis system had been developed in the lab to automatically generate datasets for normal and fault conditions with multiple integrated sensing modalities. An advanced data-driven algorithm is needed to analyze the data for fault detection, in-line production parameter adjustment, maintenance decision-making, etc. Specific project match will be determined based on background and research interest. Projects are expected to be interdisciplinary and involve collaboration with internal/external colleagues.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. in mechanical/electrical engineering or related field; strong background in hardware development and practical implementation experience; strong organizational and planning skills to execute research tasks in a coordinated manner; proficient writing and presentation skills to disseminate research results to both experts in the fields and generic public; and the ability to work on a diverse team with multiple research groups and mentor junior researchers. Should be able to demonstrate one or more of the following: in-depth theoretical knowledge of data-driven algorithm development and control theory, practical coding for implementation of efficient algorithms using various architectures, interest in performing independent research to apply data-driven algorithms to solve practical industrial problems, a prior publication or project experience in predictive maintenance, and hands-on experience implementing algorithms on resource-constrained mechatronic hardware platforms. Candidates with expertise in machine learning, predictive maintenance, and control algorithms who are interested in applying data-driven techniques to mechatronic system hardware are encouraged to apply. Job #22206
The position is for twelve months with a high possibility of extension if satisfactory progress is made. The start date for this position is summer 2023 or can be negotiated.
