Job DescriptionThis role will assist the Principle Applications Architect and Chief Technologist in providing the direction and technical expertise on the business impact of applications, their design, implementation, maintenance and future evolution as well as provide detailed technical leadership in collaboration with other software engineers to solve specific technical and business issues. A key focus for this role will be the continued support, enhancement and integration of the EagleApps Student Information System. This person will collaborate with business product owners, vendors and application development teams to execute on a broad range of projects from feature enhancements to designing and building complex technical solutions. This role combines the activities of architect, developer and implementer.
Additionally, this person will be a key individual in ensuring high availability SLAs are met which can be in the form of the following activities: architectural design (specifically for product upgrades), support and maintenance, and software development. A key task is to monitor the whole system, understand all interactions between components on a given level of abstraction, as well as to define limitations and requirements for source code.
Primary Responsibilities:
Software development - The Application architect will participate in all aspects of the software development process, such as determining business goals, prototype modeling, risk evaluation and customization for users. This person will also ensure that uniform enterprise wide application design standards are implemented, maintained and aligned with business requirements.
Ongoing support - The Application architect will monitor all application components (User Interface, middleware and infrastructure), to identify necessary configuration changes, performance improvements, maintain data integrity, improve the user experience and stay abreast of security issues.
Documentation - The Application architect will create and maintain documentation surrounding the software architecture, application design processes, component integration, testing guidelines and other key elements.
Training. The Application architect will also be responsible for training developers and refining the technical expertise of both junior and senior team members.
Primary Activities:
- Define and implement application architecture for diverse business processes, projects, and function.
- Develop software solutions and strategy to meet the architectural goals and needs of a client
- Liaise with software development teams to design and implement an architectural system
- Assign work duties to an organization's technical and programming staff in order to achieve a common target.
- Design the interface between multiple applications, databases, and middleware systems.
-Provide technical support and training of an organization's IT personnel to ensure high level of business performance.
- Upgrade architectural systems and software life cycle to ensure improved processes.
-Monitor the performance applications to ensure proper interaction between components.
- Conduct tests to ensure an application conforms to fundamental application standards and meets the requirements of the end user.
- Ensure proper documentation of software design and developing processes in order to produce appropriate procedures for application use.
- Design applications according to specific architectural design to improve overall system performance.
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $113,150 to $141,450; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
RequirementsApplication architect experience and education requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Business or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of application development/leadership experience.
- Proven record leading teams delivering successful applications in the higher ed space including relevant hands-on experience building highly scalable and reliable applications for higher ed. Including:
- Building real-time applications using Core Java, J2EE, API, Spring Boot, Microservices and Cloud Development.
- Experience developing/supporting/maintaining applications on Oracle databases running on Linux/UNIX platforms including SQL and advanced shell scripting.
- Combination of hands-on and strategic vision working with DevOps teams deploying and building platforms and frameworks to create consistent, verifiable, and automatic management of applications including:
- Testing, build, design, deployment, and ability to maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines and processes using tools like Jenkins, Maven, Git, etc.
- Ability to automate, test and deploy the code and monitor the application.
- Strong hands on experience with Java development and architecture on client facing application including:
- Familiarity with Event-Driven architecture (IBM MQ or similar)
- Familiarity with Oracle databases
- Developing solutions using micro service and Service Oriented Architecture
- Experience applying various integration patterns to new and existing applications and systems to provide seamless integration between them to eliminate potential problems and maintain data structure and integrity
