Position Summary:
The Center for Computational Research (CCR) at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites applications for a Scientific Programmer to work with a dynamic team carrying out research and development in the field of cyber infrastructure (including high performance and cloud computing) and computational science. This position offers opportunities to conduct novel research, attend research conferences, publish scientific papers and mentor students.

Comfortable working in a Linux environment with open-source software such as R or Python and various data warehousing technologies using relational and non-relational databases.

About the CCR The CCR is a leading academic supercomputing center that maintains high performance computing and storage resources dedicated to supporting the university's research activities. The staff are comprised of high performance computing (HPC) specialists, computational scientists, system administrators, programmers, software developers, and database experts from a variety of backgrounds. CCR's mission is to enable research and scholarship at UB, provide a wide range of guidance and services to facilitate faculty led research including software development, data analytics, and parallel computing, provide education, outreach, and training at UB and in Western New York and foster economic development and job creation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Theoretical knowledge of electrical engineering with courses in electronics, mathematics, and physics to be able to develop algorithms and mathematical models.
A demonstrated proficiency in research and development and strong experience in Linux software is required.
Strong programming skills using high level programming languages are required. Preferred programming languages include Python, R or PHP.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
Knowledge of data warehousing, SQL, shell-scripting, and familiarity in Linux systems administration is required.
The education and experience requirements described in this standard may be satisfied by an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Computer Science with an emphasis on programming and software engineering, or in a scientific or engineering discipline with extensive research experience and software engineering is required, a Ph.D. is also preferred.
Experience with a high-level programming language (such as C, C++, Fortran, Pascal)
Experience with computer simulation and modeling, mathematical analytical techniques, machine learning and deep learning is preferred.
Experience with parallel programming techniques (message passing, multithreading, etc.) is desirable.
Experience of software development practices such as continuous integration and revision control is desirable.
