FIBER OPTIC I/R Specialist
Location: Bowling Green, Kentucky Fulltime Hourly Position
OBJECTIVE: Be a part of bring a new high performance fiber optic service to the Warren RECC Member Service area. In this role, the FIBER OPTIC TECHNICIAN will be installing, testing, and activating the service to families and businesses in these areas. Warren RECC fiber optic service is a new service feature.
NUMBER OF POSITIONS OPEN: Two (2) REPORTS TO: Fiber Optic Network Engineer
CRITICAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Installs fiber optic drop cables and NIDS according to engineering plans/drawings
Test and activities fiber optic service for new members
Attaches Warren RECC electric plant components to fiber optic cable
Documents fiber optic network components
Connects fiber optic cables overhead in electrical space, buried underground and underground conduit
Ensures service truck is properly stocked with required inventory items to perform the job efficiently
Maintains fiber optic tools and test equipment
Performs service orders from office location to members premises as needed
Performs troubleshooting activities when needed. Maintains all relevant DOT documentation.
Attends and participates in appropriate job specific and workplace safety training sessions.
Will follow all Warren RECC safety rules and policies current and future, responsible for own safety, and reports all accidents to supervisor
EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent; Associate Degree preferred
EXPERIENCE: At least two to five years' experience in a fiber optic environment requiring installation, repairing, splicing fiber optic cable and services.
KNOWLEDGE: Must have a comprehensive knowledge of fiber optic services. Must be knowledgeable in the framing and construction of fiber optic cable. Must be knowledgeable in the use and operation of fiber optic cable.
ABILITIES/SKILLS: The ideal applicant will have excellent customer facing/service skills. Meticulous in reporting and documentation. Ability to climb poles, handle a 28 ft ladder and operate a bucket truck as required. Skilled in fiber optic fusion splicing, the use of fiber optic test equipment and OSP construction framing. Should be able to read construction and engineering drawings.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, Kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, twisting, reaching above shoulder level, working restricted spaces working off a pole or in a bucket, heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs. Must be capable of working in all temperatures, climates, and weather conditions. A person in this position may encounter fences to climb and angry dogs. Will have to be available for emergency work at nights, holidays, and weekends. Willing to work overtime and be available for afterhours standby for emergency situations. Will be in and out of the service truck multiple times in a day will have to walk for extended periods with considerable driving in different types of weather.
OTHER: Will be required to become qualified to work in the power space
