Detailed Job Description
Manage the pest/health and safety inspections for Residence hall buildings and Housing locations. Manage and participate with the team actively inspecting Residence hall rooms, documenting findings, coordinating corrective actions, and ensuring further compliance. These inspections will include checking rooms for pests and pest evidence, pest traps, cleanliness, fire safety issues, and other safety concerns. Provide corrective actions to ResLife staff for follow-up with students. Manage employee(s) performing inspections as part of a team. Coordinate with Housing Apartment Inspection team on issues, trends, and corrective actions in apartment and residential locations. Perform monthly inspections of Special Interest Housing and ResHall kitchens, and manage compliance process for findings. Actively manage year end turn process with all involved departments.
Manages and administers occupational and environmental health and safety programs for HAS to include developing and implementing program objectives, approving action plans, writing compliance policies/procedures/protocols, and serving as HAS expert in environmental health and safety. Manages compliance audits of program areas. Applies program requirements to all duties and tasks on different HAS groups. Coordinates HAS OSHA work with EHS Health and Safety Programs Manager. Focuses on health and safety in residential spaces.
Develops and presents training (classroom and computer based) and education materials to support HAS operations in the development and execution of consistent safety and environmental management programs. Training includes new hire, refresher, and student sessions. Coordinates HAS OSHA training content with EHS Health and Safety Programs Manager.
Serves as EH&S resource and consultant for HAS employees: ensures HAS is compliant in environmental health and safety local, state, and federal regulations/codes. Actively monitors changing regulations and ensures HAS implements changes. Actively engages employees to determine issues and corrective actions. Coordinates HAS compliance with EHS Health and Safety Programs Manager. Assist in development, implementation, and success of the EHS management system. Applies broad concepts to HAS specific needs and ensures compliance. Development, implementation and maintenance of EH&S Procedures for HAS.
Perform inspections, leads investigations, and develops corrective actions. Performs accident/injury investigations. Coordination and inspections of HAS safety equipment and instrumentation. Maintains equipment and tool resources and specifications for HAS personnel.
Serves on committees and project teams to further the environmental health and safety of the RIT community (liaise with EHS on RIT Campus Safety Committee,) Regularly reports EHS statistics and program requirements to HAS leadership. Advocates EHS initiatives to HAS leadership and develops action plans, training, data reports, and complete programming to implement those initiatives. Actively collaborates with HAS leadership to ensure EHS programs and compliance are a top priority as an embedded resource.
Provides support as needed during major campus events (e.g., Commencement, Move-In, etc.). Maintains crowd manager certification.
Perform other EHS duties as assigned such as reviewing RIT events for safety and being available for 24 hour emergency response.
Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION Bachelors degree Environmental Health and Safety, or directly related field
5 years of directly related experience in environmental health and safety program(s) in which the position is supporting.
Knowledge of related EHS laws and regulations/standards
Knowledge of related health and safety equipment, policies, procedures, inspection process, and strategies to promote health and safety
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Skill in use of computer databases, compliance software, and Microsoft office
Skill in public speaking and technical writing.
Skill in establishing strategic direction.
Ability to influence new EHS policies and procedures.
Ability to supervise and lead others.
