Job Summary:
The Gildart Haase School of Computer Sciences and Engineering (GHSCSE) of Fairleigh Dickinson University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Civil Engineering and Civil Engineering Technology (ET). GHSCSE offers six graduate programs and 11 undergraduate programs, which include three BS programs in engineering, four BS programs in ET, a BS Computer Science (BSCS) program, a BS Information Technology (BSIT) program, and both BA and BS programs in Mathematics. The three BS engineering programs are BS Civil Engineering (BSCE), BS Electrical Engineering (BSEE), and BS Mechanical Engineering (BSME). The BSEE program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET. The BSCE program was reviewed by EAC for initial accreditation in Fall 2021, and the accreditation result will be known in September 2022. The BSME program will be reviewed for initial accreditation by EAC in Fall 2022. The four BS ET programs are BS Civil ET, BS Construction ET, BS Electrical ET, and BS Mechanical ET, which are accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC) of ABET. The BSCS and BSIT programs are accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of ABET.
The successful candidate is expected to teach Civil Engineering, Civil ET, and Construction ET courses at all levels; have an active research program resulting in peer-reviewed publications; provide academic advising; participate actively in student recruitment and retention efforts, learning outcomes assessment, and curriculum and laboratory development; supervise student organizations and accompany students on field trips and to conferences; help maintain ABET accreditation for the engineering and ET programs in GHSCSE; and seek outside funding. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising adjunct faculty; help coordinating the Civil Engineering program; assisting and promoting other programs, including the Civil ET and Construction ET programs; and implementing GHSCSE's initiatives. Furthermore, the successful candidate is expected to be present on campus at least four of the five working days, and to attend open houses and outreach programs which are conducted on a few weekends.
Required Qualifications:
1. PhD in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
2. Strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research, service, and contributions to student welfare.
3. Demonstrated ability to foster student learning in Civil Engineering, Civil ET, and Construction ET regardless of level.
4. Superior oral and written communications skills and ability to work collaboratively.
5. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
