Detailed Job Description The Ph.D. Program in Computing and Information Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin August 2023, in the areas of machine learning and its applications to healthcare areas.
As the explosive production and accumulation of data continues, machine learning has become the foundation for solving pressing challenges across broad spectrum of domains of technological and socioeconomical importance. In the B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, there is an ever-increasing need for expertise in machine learning research. The Ph.D. Program in Computing and Information Sciences seeks qualified individuals who can contribute to its multidisciplinary research environment. Candidates with demonstrated research interest/experience in establishing collaborations within computing and other data-intensive domains, particularly healthcare, are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be ready to assume the research, teaching, and service responsibilities of a tenure-track faculty, including developing an independent, externally funded research program in machine learning and its applications. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. or equivalent in a related field and to have demonstrated research excellence or outstanding potential in related areas and a strong commitment to graduate education and student mentoring.

Department/College Description The College: The Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences prepares students to change the world through computing; GCCIS is home to the departments of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computing Security, School of Information, and the School of Interactive Games and Media. The college has over 130 full-time faculty and more than 3,600 undergraduate and 950 graduate students. The Department: The PhD. Program in Computing and Information Sciences is a use-inspired research program designed to produce independent scholars, well-prepared educators, and cutting-edge researchers who excel in computing and pursue interdisciplinary careers in academia, industry, and government. It leverages the breadth of RITs educational offerings and its scholarly emphasis on discovering solutions to real-world problems. With more than 80 participating faculty, including a small number of faculty whose home department is the Ph.D. Program, from six RIT colleges and 130 current students, the program focuses on both the theoretical and practical aspects of computing and information sciences and their application to arts, business, engineering, humanities, medicine, and science. Since its inception in 2006, about forty percent of our 80+ graduates have pursued academic careers in the U.S. and overseas, while the rest are thriving in industry R&D jobs at companies such as Google and IBM, Silicon Valley startups, and Wall Street.
