The Chair of the Computer Science department is the academic leader and chief administrative officer of the department. The Chair is charged with leading the faculty and staff in advancing the department's research, teaching, and service mission. This charge includes working with constituents to develop the Department's vision, executing and updating the Department's strategic plan, and ensuring the demonstrable success of the department by achieving the Department's goals. The Chair is also charged with promoting the Department through alumni and donor engagement and ensuring the competitiveness of its graduates.

The Computer Science Department at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University offers BS, MS and PhD degrees. The faculty in the department conduct research in areas such as cyber security, cyber identity, big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cloud computing, software engineering, multi-agents and social computing. The department continues to attract funding from National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, as well as various industries to support research and education. The department leads the University's Center for Cyber Defense, which is designated as a Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security.
