This position is remote to anyone in the lower 48 states with ability to train and travel to our Little Falls, Minnesota site where this program is located. Travel requirement is 10-20%.
SUMMARY: Plans and directs the FOCuS Active Optical Cable (AOC) and Transceiver (TR) program activities across the design, quality, safety, and manufacturing engineering departments, and oversees product and tool design, manufacturing engineering processes, and inspection performed by quality departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Oversees design, development of hardware, software, and test technologies that power optical products.
Ensures cross-functional buy-in of program milestones and committed dates, and clearly communicates expectations to all relevant parties.
Champion/Team leader of the FOCuS AOC/TR program.
Team “go to” expert on optical design and/or design review of various optical devices (VCSELs, photodetectors, fibers, various micro-optical products and components), including reliability, quality, and safety aspects.
Generate and maintain project schedules and major milestones, as well as reporting on status.
Support new business opportunities from the Strategic Business Units.
Collaborate with all peripheral departments involved in AOC/TR development and production.
Partner with manufacturing and commodity teams in sourcing, qualification, and management of suppliers.
Leads data analysis efforts for optical components and systems.
Define, design, manage and/or perform measurements on characterization and analysis equipment.
Transfer designs to manufacturing. Aid in design and evaluation of test stations and manufacturing equipment.
Lead projects and system installation/troubleshooting/debugging with customers and vendors.
Lead FDA CDRH compliance program
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESRequires knowledge typically acquired through:
Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent,
Ten years of related experience or training; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in design of space-rated micro-optical systems, Optical-Thermal-Electrical-Mechanical design principles, and geometric/physical optical design software and tolerance analysis.
Experience with optical fiber-based products, including actives (VCSELs, TOSA/ROSAs, LDDs/TIAs, MCUs) and passives (lens, fibers, filters, etc.).
Experience with optical transceivers and devices, characterization methods, optical and electrical performance testing, radiation and TVAC testing, and system integration of optical components.
Experience with low volume, high precision optical product manufacturing, equipment, and component alignment and mounting methods.
Experience with FDA/CDRH/IEC regulations and design for safety.
Knowledge of FRED, ZEMAX, or other commercial optical engineering software.
Knowledge of system-level tradeoffs when designing thermo-electrical-opto-mechanical systems including electrical engineering, board design, firmware, and software engineering.
Knowledge of space qualification testing, telecom/datacom optical interconnect, and corresponding technologies is desirable.
Experience with Windchill, Glovia, QCBD, SolidWorks, CREO, SystemLink desired.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and groups of employees.
Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, variance analysis, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
