Detailed Job DescriptionThis position works under the direction of the Real Time Captioning and Notetaking Team (RTCNT) Managers supporting captionist scheduling, professional development, and mentoring.
Responsibilities:
- Accepts and/or denies student academic nd special requests within ASDS, communicating request status with students. Using captionist preference sheets as a guideline, schedules captionist academic schedules within ASDS to best support student needs, as well as matching skills of captionists appropriately to level of assignments.
- Provides up to 150 hours per semester of real time captioning, covering a range of assignments across all colleges of RIT including high visibility assignments.
- Under Manager direction, provides direct hands-on mentoring support to all staff captionists, including but not limited to skill building, POW's, developing, designing and implementing PD's, workshops and other methods to support skill growth and development. In addition, may provide support to staff on a formal improvement plan supporting specific areas to improve skills. Acclimates new staff to department practices. Serves as a chair on RTC/NT committees.
- Addresses consumer concerns regarding service, referring issues requiring further attention to manager.
- Serves as a point of contact between captionists and consumers, sharing assignment related information with captionists relevant to service provision.
- Serves as a liaison between Real-Time Captioning and remote captioning agencies with regards to provision of RTC services.
- Supports managers generating analysis of data regarding service needs and provision, including uncovered assignments. Prepares reports as directed.
- Maintains equipment inventory, ensuring updates are completed, problem reports are initiated and completed. Assigns equipment to new staff as well as staff needing replacement equipment.
- OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED - Backs-up function of Captioning Team Specialist in absence and other incidental tasks as assigned.

- 1-3 years' experience facilitating and leading skill development/professional development workshops, and/or mentoring.
