Detailed Job Description RIT is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to work collaboratively with the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and university leaders to develop, implement, and coordinate inclusive policies and programs encompassing all aspects of human resources in support of 4,000+ staff and faculty across the university. The Deputy CHRO will serve as a crucial member of the university's Human Resources (HR) leadership team, liaising across campus constituencies to align, drive, and execute progressive HR strategies and practices to achieve the university's HR goals and objectives.
The ideal candidate for this role will be a strategic leader with significant, progressively responsible human resource management experience in a broad range of functional areas, as well as, substantial experience overseeing large and complex projects.
Serve as a collaborative partner providing solutions and guidance as the HR organization continues to enhance service orientation, build technological innovation, and optimize the levels of service experienced across a large and diverse constituency.
Work with the CHRO and university leaders to assess the human resource functions, processes, and staffing and develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for human resources.
Support the collaborative, cohesive, and strategic delivery of HR services across the university.
Work collaboratively with campus partners to address employee engagement and satisfaction throughout this highly complex organization.
Work with CHRO to standardize HR communications processes across the organization; develop and deliver updates on HR-related matters to RIT supervisors.
Advise and assist staff/faculty with respect to general human resource policies and procedures regarding grievances, employee relations, affirmative action, and equal opportunity.
Provide advice and counsel on employment and employee relations issues to RIT supervisors at all levels.
Oversee a dynamic, strategic, effective, and highly functional team; develop strategies, objectives, and action plans for the Employee Relations and HR Business Partnerships team and the HR Operations function.
Select, motivate and sustain a high performing staff. Determine staffing needs; make hiring decisions; provide coaching, training, and mentoring; and manage performance.
Facilitate delivery of excellent customer service, accurate and timely advice and counsel to employees and supervisors, accomplishment of operational tasks, and completion of the annual plans of work.
Manage all aspects of the employee relations function. Develop, recommend, review, update and implement approved university employment and employee relations-related policies and practices.
Ensure the uniform and equitable application of university policies and procedures.
Identify employee relations issues, and take appropriate actions to address and resolve.
Apply continuous improvement principles and human resources systems knowledge to streamline and improve HR transactions and operations for both back-office and RIT community stakeholders.
Additional Responsibilities include:
Conduct formal investigations of complaints by faculty/staff when appropriate.
Work with university legal counsel on behalf of internal respondents for employment-related current and pending litigation.
Serve as liaison to university governance groups
Manage budgeting and forecasting processes, and negotiate and oversee vendor contracts for areas of oversight.
Create an environment of open communication, learning, respect and responsiveness.
Upon request, represent and/or substitute for CHRO in their absence.

Minimum Qualifications Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field.
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible human resources management experience, encompassing a broad range of functional areas such as recruitment, employee relations, total rewards, information systems, operations, employee and organizational development, performance management, and/or regulatory compliance.
Knowledge and Skills:
The ideal candidate for the role of Deputy CHRO will be a strong leader and strategic change manager who can articulate an organizational vision at the university level. The Deputy CHRO must demonstrate exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) that allow for optimal comprehension, as well as experience with public speaking and presenting to groups of all sizes and of various levels. The ideal candidate will also possess:
Strategic thinking skills with demonstrated experience in generating results;
Skill necessary to work across departmental silos to accomplish missions, and a high degree of tact, patience, and diplomacy in interacting with faculty, staff, students, and visitors to RIT;
Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills and the demonstrated ability to interact comfortably with a wide range of stakeholders and constituents at all levels of seniority;
Proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and experience with creation of policies and programs to support a diverse workforce;
