Detailed Job DescriptionResponsibilities include:
- Work with the SLT director to promote the unit's mission providing specific and tailored cultural and identity-development experiences.
- Identify emotional, social, and skill development needs and supports for at-risk deaf and hard of hearing students.
- Provide mentoring services that empower and ignite all deaf and hard of hearing students.
- Evaluate existing efforts in the area and utilize the assessment to make continuous improvement.
- Supervise, recruit, and hire student paraprofessionals during the academic year, including the summer for summer programs.
- Provide curricular mentoring and club & organization leadership training and review evaluations for program and training to ensure continued improvement in service and share the summary report annually with SLT director.
- Work collaboratively with the depts at NTID and RIT Student Affairs to provide ongoing support for deaf and hard of hearing students.
Department/College DescriptionStudent Life Team (SLT) is responsible for providing students with resources and support for their successful transition throughout college and after graduation. SLT works in partnership with NTIDs Academic Affairs, NTIDs Student and Academic Services departments, NTIDs Outreach Consortium, NTID Co-op and Career Center and several departments across RITs Division of Student Affairs for educating, challenging and supporting all Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf Disabled, Late Deafened, Hard of Hearing, and Oral students who are eager to achieve and improve their abilities and soft skills. SLT is committed to supporting first year students, ALANA (African, Latinx, Asian and Native American) students, international students, and all-recognized NTID clubs and organizations. SLT proudly offer co-curricular and cultural/educational/religious/spiritual activities, trainings, and workshops for all students during academic years.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelors degree in Student Affairs, Human and Social Services, Organizational Development, Psychology, Communication, or closely related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of proven experience in community leadership and an understanding of Deaf and hard of hearing student communities and their sub-groups and Deaf Culture.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in student development and ability to interpret and apply that knowledge to the intersectional deaf and hard of hearing student community within NTID.
- The ability to create meaningful interactions among students, faculty, and staff for the purpose of promoting student success.
- Sign language proficiency required.
- The ability to manage and communicate multiple projects simultaneously & effectively to various individuals.
