The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Oregon Health & Sciences University is seeking to immediately hire a Postdoctoral Scholar to do research on scientific programs involving technology development for people with type 1 diabetes.
Function/Duties of Position
A Postdoctoral Scholar is being recruited to work on one or more projects. Potential projects include (1) developing new mathematical models to describe the glucoregulatory system of people with type 1 diabetes during exercise, (2) development of new prediction algorithms for predicting hypoglycemia and other glycemic excursions using big data analytics, (3) developing new control algorithms for automated delivery of insulin and glucagon within a smart-phone based system. The position will require skills for the development of models and machine learning algorithms that can be used both within an automated drug delivery system and within a decision support framework. The Postdoctoral Scholar will independently write and submit grants and technical research papers and to prepare and give oral / poster presentations at international conferences. The Postdoctoral Scholar will come up with original ideas and work towards proving them and ultimately getting them funded through the grant submission process. The candidate should expect to work hard to move forward on a pathway to becoming an independent faculty member.
Salary for this position aligns with the NIH Scale.
PhD in a field of study related to the research
Experience with computer programming (e.g., C, R, Matlab Python)
Experience with computer simulation of complex physical systems
Background in engineering and strong knowledge of computational diabetes
Knowledge of the physiology of diabetes
Experience doing research in the area of type 1 diabetes technology development
PhD in Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or Statistics
Experience with software packages for RSTAN MCMC simulations
Familiarity with compartment modeling, glucoregulatory models, machine learning, signal processing, statistics and error analysis (uncertainty quantification)
