Double Helix Optics Inc, an innovator in 3D imaging technologies, seeks a Sr Optical Engineer to join a growing dynamic team expanding the boundaries of 3D Imaging and ranging technology.
This job will focus on hands-on product development from prototyping to design transfer for product manufacturing. Double Helix utilizes computational optical imaging approaches to capture and render high resolution 3D images at microscopic and macroscopic scales. The candidate filling this position will be responsible for the design, development and testing of optical systems at the intersection of hardware and computational optics algorithms to realize optical imaging systems optimized for 3D imaging with enhanced functionality and performance. The ideal candidate will have a good working knowledge of optical design, including imaging and illumination optics design, that accounts for assembly and alignment of optical components/subsystems, and optical performance optimization.
Primary Responsibilities
Participate in concept development, optical design, opto-mechanical implementation, performance modeling, integration, testing, and characterization
Lead implementation of design concepts to working models and prototypes through to manufactured product
Perform analyses, simulations, and experiments to verify that the chosen design will meet all system requirements
Work with manufacturing partner to ensure optimal system builds
Perform product unit testing and inspection
Research vendors, technology, and competitive products
Technical Qualifications
Well versed in a broad range of optics concepts including geometrical optics, physical optics, optical illumination, and optical alignment techniques. Specific experience in microscopy modalities including epifluorescence, light sheet, structured illumination, and high content screening is a plus.
Experience in modeling optical systems for system optimization, tolerancing and performance.
Strong experience in design and build of high quality and reliable optical imaging systems
Strong knowledge of ray tracing tools such as Zemax or CodeV required.
Strong MATLAB experience required.
Background Qualifications
Ph.D or master’s degree in optics, or related field with 4+ years’ relevant work experience in optical system design
Strong candidates will demonstrate a track record of successful product development experience
Highly self-motivated and a solid team player with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Quick learner, able and interested in acquiring new skills and competences.
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.
Double Helix Optics is an emerging leader in 3D imaging for life sciences. Built on technology originally developed in the labs of Dr. Rafael Piestun at the University of Colorado, Boulder and 2014 Nobel Prize winner Dr. W.E. Moerner at Stanford University, the company is known for its Light Engineering™ engineered PSF technology. Our technology enables imaging tracking and counting with an unprecedented combination of precision and depth. We enable both single shot depth volumetric imaging and single shot sub-diffraction imaging, offering order of magnitude enhanced precision over conventional, diffraction-limited imaging and with depth ranges exceeding 20 microns in a single shot. A growing start-up company, based in Boulder, CO, you will be working in an exciting, fast-paced but also relaxed and flexible working environment. As a small company, you will be close to all aspects of the business. There will be room to grow with and within the business. You will be expected to be self-managing, proactive and collaborative.Double Helix Optics is an equal opportunity employer.
