About College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering (CPOE), Harbin Engineering University
The College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering was developed from the Association of Physics Professors in the Military Engineering College of the People's Liberation Army (PLA Military Institute of Engineering), established in 1953. Before the official establishment of the College of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering in January 2019, it has gone through the Basic Department, the Department of Physics, and the College of Science. Currently, the college has an "optical engineering" post-doctoral research mobile station, the doctoral degree conferring spot of first-level "optical engineering" discipline, the master’s degree conferring spots of first-level disciplines include "optical engineering" and "physics", and national first-class undergraduate professional construction spot in the discipline of “optoelectronic information science and engineering”. The college currently has 108 faculty members, including 50 teachers with senior professional titles, 20 doctoral supervisors, and 37 master supervisors. Among them, there is one Candidate in the “New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent” Project, one National Distinguished Young Scientist, one wi...nner of National “Thousand Young Talent Scientists”, one National Outstanding Youth, three winners of New Century Talents from the Ministry of Education, two outstanding youths in Heilongjiang Province, three Longjiang scholars, and three provincial “Well-Known Teachers”. There are 1017 students in the college, including 679 undergraduates, 226 masters, and 112 doctors. The grassroots academic teaching organization in the college is composed of basic teaching and research center, physics research center, and photonics research center. Photonic Science and Technology Center currently has 35 teachers, including 16 professors and associate professors, 11 doctoral supervisors, and 29 master supervisors. Among them, there is 1 National Distinguished Young Scientist, 1 Candidate in the “New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent” Project, 1 National Outstanding Youth, one winner of National “Thousand Young Talent Scientists”, two winners of New Century Talents from the Ministry of Education, 1 Outstanding Youth of Heilongjiang Province, and 2 Longjiang Scholars. In the past five years, the center has undertaken more than 100 national, provincial and ministerial projects and more than ten important national projects, including the National Key Research and Development Program, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (major and key programs), National Major Scientific Instrument Development Special Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Major International Cooperation Projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology. We have been awarded six provincial and ministerial science and technology awards and have published more than 400 academic papers in the top international academic journals, including Physical Review Letters, Nature Communications, Science Advances, and other authoritative journals in professional fields. The center focuses on the combination of cutting-edge scientific research and engineering technology applications and emphasizes the cross-innovation with marine multidiscipline, thus forms research features centered on fiber integration and sensing technology. At present, Photonic Science and Technology Center has a scientific research laboratory that is more than 5,000 square meters, and the equipment value in the lab is more than 50 million yuan. The scientific research platform in the center is at the top domestic and international advanced level. Currently, 18 faculty members work in PRC, including six professors, four associate professors, and eight lecturers. PRC has many laboratories covering more than 7,000 square meters, and the total value of instruments and equipment in the center exceeds 85 million yuan. PRC is guided by major national basic research needs and adheres to serving the national strategy and the needs of national economic construction. Based on the domestic leading and international advanced scientific research platform, PRC researches cutting-edge basic theories and key technology and cultivates innovative talents. To create a " Ship, Marine and Nuclear industry applications"-oriented basic research platform, PRC focuses on important scientific issues in physics and pays attention to the integrated development of basic innovation and cross-multidiscipline. The center has four research directions: optics, condensed matter physics, acoustics, and nuclear physics.
