The Kheirbek lab in the in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is seeking a specialist with a focus on Data Science. Our lab is focused on understanding the neural circuits that generate emotional behavior (see www.kheirbeklab.org for more information).
Our research group employs state-of-the art statistical and machine learning approaches to decode information from large scale calcium imaging studies and high-density electrophysiology experiments in experiments conducted in mice. We are using these tools to understand the basic processes that underlie the encoding of emotionally relevant information, and how this may go awry in mood and anxiety-related disorders. You will join a dynamic and diverse group of neuroscientists applying cutting-edge technologies and applications. This is an ideal position for someone looking to: 1) work in close collaboration with experimental scientists, 2) contribute meaningfully to projects and co-author peer-reviewed publications, and 3) advance their career in neuroscience.
Required Qualifications:
• Ability to work independently and assess need for assistance from supervisor
• Junior rank: Bachelor’s degree in a field related to computer science, statistics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or computational biology/neuroscience, or at least four years of relevant experience.
• Assistant or Associate ranks: Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in a field related to computer science, statistics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or computational biology/neuroscience or five to ten years of relevant experience.
• Full rank: Terminal degree (or equivalent degree) in a field related to computer science, statistics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or computational biology/neuroscience or ten or more years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency programming in MATLAB or Python
• Knowledge and familiarity working with Jupyter notebooks and familiarity with version control (GitHub/ Git).
• CV must list pending qualifications; all qualifications must be met by time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge or experience with time-series data, calcium imaging or electrophysiology data.
• Masters or PhD degree in a related science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in computer science, statistics, mathematics, electrical engineering, or computational biology/ neuroscience or related field.
