Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Aerospace Engineering, in the College of Engineering at Iowa State University, invites applications for the position of professor of practice or term teaching faculty at the assistant, associate or full professor level in the area of flight dynamics and control for aircraft or spacecraft. The Aerospace Engineering Department faculty teaches a broad curriculum in the areas of aeronautics and astronautics. The faculty includes long-term non-tenure-eligible faculty who have extensive industry and professional experience. The successful candidate will be appointed for a term of one to five years, depending upon qualifications, and will be eligible for renewal and advancement.
Successful candidates will be expected to teach up to three courses per semester in the areas of aircraft flight dynamics, control theory, or astrodynamics and may also choose to engage in student project supervision, based on interest and expertise. The candidate is expected to engage in continuous professional and curriculum development at the undergraduate level, as well as engage in department and institutional service. Candidates should have strong communication skills, share our commitment to enhancing excellence through diversity and inclusion, and exhibit the potential for long-term leadership in supporting the mission of the department, college, and university.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates at the Assistant Teaching Professor rank must have a Ph.D., or an MS plus 3 years of relevant work experience, or a BS degree plus 5 years of relevant work experience.
Candidates at the Associate Teaching Professor rank must have a Ph.D. plus 5 years of relevant work experience, or an MS degree plus 8 years of relevant work experience, or a BS degree plus 10 years of relevant work experience.
Candidates at the Teaching Professor rank must have a record of teaching experience and a Ph.D. plus 10 years of relevant work experience, or an MS degree plus 13 years of relevant work experience, or a BS degree plus 15 years of relevant work experience.
Candidates for Professor of Practice are required to have significant professional experience in their area of expertise in addition to the aforementioned requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Record of technical expertise in areas related to aircraft or spacecraft flight dynamics and control as evidenced by professional/industry experience, technical publications, or related measures of expertise.
Teaching experience in aerospace engineering or a closely related field.
Experience in at least one of the following areas: aircraft flight dynamics, astrodynamics, or control theory.
Additional experience with computer programming, electronics, flight simulation, or aircraft/spacecraft design is desirable but not essential.
Demonstrated commitment and activity for diversity and inclusion.

The Department of Aerospace Engineering is nationally recognized for its research and teaching, offering BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. The department has an ABET accredited undergraduate program in aerospace engineering and graduate programs in aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics. The department has research strengths in fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials; autonomy; guidance and control; formal methods and software engineering; aerodynamics; aero-structural interaction; complex systems and optimization; and non-destructive evaluation and testing. The faculty is comprised of 21 full-time tenured/tenure-track, 10 non-tenure eligible teaching, and research faculty, 16 staff members, and approximately 833 undergraduate, and 94 graduate students.
