This is a tenure track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Computer Science (CS) at North Carolina A&T State University. The department's research strengths are in cyber security, artificial intelligence and data science. Applications from these three areas as well as from other specializations across computer science – especially gaming and virtual environments – are also welcome. The successful candidate will have a solid publication record, will be demonstrably prepared to establish an independent funded research program, and will positively benefit the research and education needs of the department. Qualified candidates from groups underrepresented in the CS discipline are especially encouraged to apply.
The primary responsibilities for this position include: (1) Advancing teaching and learning in computer science through relevant and engaged classroom teaching; (2) establishing, supporting, and sustaining a successful independent research program in computer science. The latter includes but is not limited to seeking and securing extramural research funding to support the work and the graduate and undergraduate students it engages; and steady dissemination of quality research results by producing scholar products respected by the discipline; and (3) engaging in service activities for the benefit of the department, College, University, and relevant technical community.

The Computer Science Department at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has 13 full-time faculty members, and offers BS, MS and PhD degrees. The department has a current enrollment of over 300 undergraduate students, 41 masters and 29 doctoral students. The faculty in the department conduct research in areas such as cyber security, cyber identity, big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cloud computing, software engineering, multi-agents and social computing. The department attracts funding from National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, as well as various industries to support research and education. The CS department leads NC A&T's Center for Cyber Defense, which is designated as a Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education and in Cyber Research by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. The CS department is also part of the Consortium Enabling Cybersecurity Opportunities and Research, which is funded by the Nuclear Security Administration and consists of twelve colleges and universities and a public school system.
