Founded in 1986, the Institute of Biosciences and Bioengineering (IBB) is Rice University's research accelerator dedicated to promoting faculty-led, bio-related interdisciplinary research and educational programs, fostering collaborations with the Texas Medical Center, and developing technology for the benefit of human health. The IBB is seeking an exceptionally qualified and motivated design engineer to work with an interdisciplinary team of faculty, students, and industry experts to develop the world's first 3D printed "Smart Helmet" for the Department of Defense. The design engineer will be responsible for the development and testing of a sensor integrated helmet prototype using 3D printing and computer aided engineering tools including solid modeling and simulation, and robust design of printable structures that increase the performance capabilities of the helmet system.
This is a three-year term limited position supported by the Office of Naval Research with the singular goal of creating a minimum viable prototype helmet with integrated sensors that protect the health and safety of the individual.
