Responsible for the analysis, design, development, and testing of power conversion hardware for industrial motor drives
Generate design specifications based on product requirements. Assist laboratory testing and qualification of the product
Participate in project planning activity, scheduling of tasks and assessment of cost
Application of electrical circuit and electro-mechanical systems design principles to develop power conversion circuits - rectifiers/inverters, switch-mode power supplies, magnetics and filter design
Use of simulation tools for modeling, design and troubleshooting of complex power electronics circuits, systems, and applications
Must follow and ensure safe work practices when working with high voltage power hardware
Demonstrate excellent technical, oral and written communication skills, and work effectively in a team environment. Participate in project planning and assume responsibility for timely completion of tasks
Stay up-to-date with technology advancements in power electronics, components, and design and simulation tools
Understand regulatory and certification standards that govern product design
Apply DFSS principles for concept selection and robust design
Follow company and business policies and procedures, such as the Common Product Development process
Learn and use enterprise tools such as SAP
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
Up to 10% travel
Minimum of Five years of relevant experience
Working knowledge of UL, CSA and CE standards applicable to AC drive design ( e.g . UL/IEC 61800-5-1, IEC 61800-3)
M.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, with specialization in Power Electronics
Experience with the use and application of circuit simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink, PSpice, Ansys EM Suite for analysis, design and troubleshooting circuits and systems
Experience with analyzing EMC susceptibility and emissions from power conversion products, agency standards for compliance and test methodologies
Working knowledge of power converter topologies for DC and AC motor drives - non-regenerative and regenerative rectifiers, inverters, switch-mode power supplies
Experience with selection and application of power semiconductor devices, subsystems and circuit components - IGBTs, SCRs, MOSFETs, gate drivers, voltage and current sensing, switch-mode power supplies, bus structures, capacitors and AC/DC inductors, transient protection, EMC compliance
Proficient with simulation of power converter and motor drive systems. Experience with finite-element simulation tools and application to AC drive design
Demonstrated application of Design for Six Sigma principles with Green Belt or higher certification
Working knowledge of failure modes and experience with troubleshooting subsystems and components of AC drives
Experience with PWM techniques and knowledge of motor control algorithms
Working knowledge of application issues with AC drives including mitigation methods - harmonics and power quality, motor insulation, common-mode currents, harmonic filters, dv/dt and sine-wave filters
Experience with magnetics design and specification - AC and DC inductors, LCL filters for regenerative drives
Experience with UL, CSA and CE standards and application to AC drives design (electrical safety, functional safety, EMC, energy efficiency) for design and qualification testing. Familiarity with standards for grid-tie inverters
