UC San Diego International House was founded in 1988, in connection with the establishment of Fifth (now Eleanor Roosevelt) College.
UC San Diego International House (I-House) is a dynamic on-campus community dedicated to the promotion of international awareness and intercultural understanding. I-House operates as a residential housing complex, programming and events center, and connection point for five globally-focused student organizations. All members of the campus community are encouraged to participate in the internationally-oriented programs organized by I-House. The Great Hall and the Asante Classrooms serve as welcoming spaces for I-House's in-person programs, as well as many independent campus and community events.
International House (I-House) is also a living/learning community(LLC) with 350 international and domestic residents, six apartments for visiting scholars, superb events facilities, and innovative international programs that originate at UC San Diego and reach across the globe.
Under general supervision from the Provost, the I-House Business Administrative Officer uses advanced administrative concepts and organization objectives to resolve complex issues. Manages, plans, administers and coordinates the strategic plan, vision and operations of the organizational unit.
The I-House Business Operations Officer coordinates, implements and evaluates opportunities in support of UC San Diego's international mission. Using skills as a seasoned and experienced administrative operations professional, the Manager overseas the operations of the International House, and performs short- and long-term planning for the organization demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
The I-House Business Operations Officer oversees a comprehensive, globally focused, intellectual environment through programs and events that enhance the campus experience. The Business Operations Officer manages I-House programs through on-campus events and social media presence. In conjunction with the Colleges Business Office, the incumbent manages the day-to-day aspects of the operations for the unit, including fiscal, human resources, students in residence and resource and asset management. Oversees the management and coordination of all facilities under I-House control and works in partnership with the Campus Housing and Dining Facilities to plan and manage the Great Hall, Asante Classrooms and all other spaces associated with the unit. Included in this aspect is management and budgeting for ongoing maintenance, repairs and asset depreciation/replacement.
The incumbent helps to define, implement and evaluate best practices for the satisfaction of international students who reside at I-House. Develops, implements, and manages I-House programs responding to complex international issues, short- and long-term, that affect our internal population and enhances the intellectual climate at I-House and Eleanor Roosevelt College. Independently assesses residents, programs, and budget of I-House. Represents I-House on with external constituents, including International House World Wide and the I-House Advisory Board.
Must be available for occasional travel (domestic/international) for special conferences. Evening and weekend work may be required for special events.
Experience purchasing major equipment and planning large-scale facilities maintenance projects. Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service. Experience forecasting maintenance budgets.
