The Department of Radiology is currently seeking a Research Analyst position. The person will plan, organize, and coordinate research data acquisition/analysis related to cardiovascular imaging to support extramurally funded research projects. In addition to being responsible for assisting with data collection and analysis, this person will assist existing research staff in clinical research coordination tasks including patient identification, recruitment, enrollment and “day of” study activities. These multi-disciplinary research projects are a collaboration between the Medical School (Radiology, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology) and Engineering School (Biomedical & Electrical Engineering).
The Research Analyst will be expected to participate in data collection, database creation and maintenance, as well as tasks related to project management including keeping records of project progress, outstanding tasks and deliverables. This person will assist the PI in managing a variety of students/trainees research projects. This position has both a strong clinical and research component.
Key attributes for this role include: good computer skills, ability to independently manage workload; excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate between the Departments or Radiology, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery and Engineering; troubleshoot and problem solving skills; effective written and verbal communication including demonstrated skills in technical writing.
30%- Coordinate patient recruitment & retention (in conjunction with other research coordinators/staff) as well as facilitate performance of research MRI scans for subjects enrolled in assigned clinical research studies. Utilize Central Radiology Clinical Trials office as needed for training, general support, preparing study records for internal Radiology audits.
20%- Perform basic image analysis tasks (reconstruction, registration, segmentation) on medical imaging data (CT & MRI) using existing software tools. Perform various quality assurance (QA) analyses related to investigational image analysis algorithms.
10%- Assist the PI in generating project plans for a variety of ongoing research studies (including those assigned to graduate & medical students/residents) and maintain detailed records of outstanding research tasks and deadlines.
10%- Independently design and maintain databases for research data in addition to maintaining recruitment database. Generate reports for data analysis.
10%- Assist in the generation, population, and maintenance of repositories of CT/MRI image data used for large longitudinal
10%- Assist in preparation of research results for presentation including progress reports, posters, abstracts and manuscripts.
5%- Data collection and entry with sources to include subject interview and medical chart review according to study protocols.
5%- Assist in preparing Institutional Review Board applications, consent forms and participant documents for research projects.

Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, medical physics, computer science or engineering field
Experience with medical imaging/image analysis.
Proficient in data collection/handling.
Essential to be proficient in computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
Experience with handling various Medical Imaging data formats.
Demonstrates understanding of clinical research; understand compliance issues related to human subjects research.
Demonstrates understanding of medical terminology.
Demonstrates ability to work independently.
Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines in the management of clinical subjects.
Demonstrates excellent writing and communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and a willingness to learn new skills.
3+ years of relevant experience
Master’s or Doctoral degree in medical field
Knowledge of UMHS policies and practices
Experience with database creation.
Experience with basic statistical analysis.
PEERRS and CITI Training
Experience with clinical research and trials.
Days, 40 hours weekly
This is a 2 year term limited position. At the end of the term, the appointment will terminate and will not be elgible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
