This position is responsible for the planning, development, and maintenance of grid technology projects and identifying opportunities to incorporate edge of grid opportunities into long-term resources planning while developing comprehensive power supply strategies and polices through data analytics that address risks and opportunities related to Wabash Valley Power’s power supply obligation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The Grid Innovation and Portfolio Integration lead will be responsible for supporting key commercial analytical functions which support data-driven decision making, discovery of insights, growth and enhancement of margin and the refinement of strategy across the Wabash Valley Power’s portfolio.
Lead will be expected to contribute strategic thought leadership and problem solving and leverage his/her strong stakeholder management and influencing skills to promote positive business outcomes.
Manage the execution of a portfolio of strategic grid technology demonstration projects including but not limited to Microgrids, Electric Vehicle adoption, Distributed Generation and Distribution System Operations.
Develop an ongoing knowledge of future trends, policy changes, market dynamics, and market opportunities and threats and perform analysis to allow Wabash Valley Power to develop strategies and policies to address the ongoing changes in portfolio analysis and market intelligence fundamentals.
Manage the relevant data and analytics associated with the portfolio of generation, fuel, load, hedges, and related commodities to understand and maintain underlying positions, volatilities, cross-commodity & asset correlations, risk exposures, and opportunities.
Identify and assess the integration of non-traditional power supply resources within the current and future power supply portfolio portfolio and present on the overall impact of variable margins, fixed costs, risk exposure and rate impact.
Serves as an interface between Wabash Valley Power and various power and transmission associations such as ACES Power Marketing, Midwest ISO and PJM.
Track, analyze, report on, and proactively engage on issues of interest to Wabash Valley Power before ISO/RTO working groups and related state and federal regulatory bodies.
Coordinate with ACES and NRCO teams on emerging trends and portfolio impacts and opportunities.
Assists other functions of the company in the analysis and evaluation of strategic items such as member rate structure, energy efficiency, budgeting and forecasting and demand response.
Engage teams internal and external on innovation ideas including Electric Vehicle’s integration, Customer experience (CX) & engagement, Customer market place, Digital energy with behavioral energy efficiency, AML enabled energy analytics etc.
Deliver management presentations and interact with other functional areas such as generation operations, business development, risk management, finance, and regulatory, as needed, with respect to the aforementioned accountabilities.
Conducts special projects as assigned by EVP, Power Supply.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Business required
A minimum of 10 years progressive experience in electrical engineering, project management, and/or economics capacity required.
Prior power supply market experience essential along with knowledge in electric utility processes, practices, issues, and policies.
Prior experience in risk management is required.
Programing skills required in advanced algorithm development ( R, Python, Matlab, SAS etc.)
Strong cross-functional skill sets: valuation & quantitative analysis; commercial mindset; understands markets, instruments, & market rules; understands correlation of risks and opportunities across the value chain; familiarity with market data & sources, analytical tools and systems.
Ability to define a vision of success and drive towards it; can organize and promote agile and efficient workflows.
Knowledge and experience with various commercial tools and systems, preferably including ETRM and stochastic tools.
Knowledge and experience in IoT analytics/AI (connected assets, predictive / prescriptive analytics, simulations, etc.)
Ability to aggregate data in a way that enables insights and decision making
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. without mechanical assistance.

This position occupies a general office environment. Exposure to weather elements is unlikely.
