SeniorResearch Engineer - Electrical
Senior Principal Research Engineer, Research & Technology Development
Drives Product and/or Process Innovation. Manages the development of new technologies from project charter phase through technology definition and technology development. Advises and provides input and support on new technology development to Research & Development and Process Development teams.
Is the subject matter expert in multiple technical areas and/or product lines, occasionally coaching and training members of the design and/or process development team. Their expertise in the area will maintain competency and market leadership in assigned technology and product lines. Through patent protection and invention disclosure, protect the technologies that are core to the long term success of the business.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Identifies new technology platforms that will eliminate design constraints and lead to breakthrough new processes and new products
Accelerate the launch of new products by removing the technology unknowns
Identify and assess new materials and processing technologies, which will assist Stryker achieve its growth and cost goals.
Is a Subject Matter Expert in his/her area for the Corporation
Generates invention disclosures and intellectual property
Networks with senior internal and external personnel in area of expertise
May function in a Technical Leadership role on a major project.
Coaching, mentoring of Research and Development, Manufacturing and Process Development teams
Design for economic manufacture.
Knowledge transfer coordination with Advance Operations.
Design, manufacture and use of manufacturing equipment, including the study of performance-related factors.
Instigate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and a new methodology approach to all new technology projects with consideration for cost efficiencies at all stages and deliver lean and cost effective processes for product manufacture.
Lead and/or support capital acquisition activity for New Technologies. Source vendors required to support or provide New Technology Developments. Assess these vendors and work to develop them as required.
Communicate project status internally and externally as required.
Qualifications Knowledge Skills
Bachelor of Engineering/Science with 6 or more years of experience; Masters of Eng/Science with 4 or more years of experience or PhD with 2 or more years may be desirable
Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
Self-starter with demonstrated efficient work methods, analytical & problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple tasks using independent judgement in a fast paced environment.
Capable of working as part of a multi-disciplined team.
Good instincts and sound judgment for electrical, mechanical and structural design
Use of creativity tools for idea and concept generation.
Good understanding of statistical tools and validation/verification techniques.
Ideally has good knowledge of human anatomy and common surgical procedures.
Knowledge of project Management tools is essential
Sound knowledge of electrical design, software, sensors, electrical component assembly and manufacturing, electrical standards and modelling and simulation techniques. Fluent in Electrical CAD with good working knowledge of simulation packages.
Must be able to read and interpret complex electrical engineering specifications and read and understand programming languages.
Must have the ability to work with and assemble small objects and component parts.
Must be able to generate, follow and explain detailed proposals and operating procedures.
Experience of the Medical Device Industry or other highly regulated industry required with an in depth understanding of ISO 13485 and FDA quality system requirements
Willingness to travel internationally for live surgery visits and global partner collaboration, and work on international assignments. Excellent interpersonal communications skills.
