Position Summary: The Plant Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support for daily operations, plant improvements, process improvements, designs, equipment acquisition specifications, plant breakdown analyses, and recommending corrective actions; verifying project activities are in accordance with procedures, schedules, regulatory compliance and within budget projections; conducting performance tests, collecting and analyzing operating data, and developing operational plans and equipment recommendations for optimizing performance and profitability; performing audits and maintaining plant operating, maintenance and test records. Perform other duties as required.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities: Identify, trend and analyze plant heat rate, water usage, chemical usage and other efficiency indicators. Perform reliability studies to maximize plant availability and capacity factor. Coordinate with plant management on equipment and process changes. Analyze equipment failures, determine root causes, and recommend recovery plans. Work with collection and analyses of data for vibration, infrared surveys, oil sampling, ultrasonics, etc., for plant Condition Based Monitoring program, to maintain plant reliability and availability. Provide local expertise on material handling including storage, disposal and spill response. Audit and make recommendations on the use and integrity of onsite containment areas. Coordinate with BEPC Environmental Health and Safety on policy changes and related procedure and training modifications. Participate as required in regulatory compliance audits. Participate in outage planning and scheduling; Manage assigned capital improvement projects to reach a quality on-budget completion; Manage specialized repairs and testing; and Coordinate with BEPC Engineering Services on upgrades and design changes. Provide training as required. Assist in contractor oversight during outages as needed. Maintain the plant document filing system for required equipment tests, permit required inspections and other regulatory requirements.
Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school. 7+ years of plant engineering experience in power or industrial processes. Prefer experience with combustion turbines, steam turbines, boilers, and balance of plant equipment.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: Requires working inside and outside of an electric generating plant in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes with extreme ranges of humidity and dryness. Requires working in areas of constant high noise and vibration levels. Requires lifting, pushing pulling or carrying of weights equal to 50 pounds or more. Requires climbing ladders and stairs. Requires wearing personal safety equipment. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted. Requires vision within normal range, corrective lenses are permitted.
