A Substation and Transmission Design Engineer develops design engineering packages for Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Corp’s. (AECC’s) transmission and electric distribution substations. Ensures department is providing well-designed, soundly constructed, and reliably operated electric substation and transmission facilities. Evaluates and updates related AECC Engineering design standards and technical specifications. Provides electrical engineering design packages for new or the upgrade of existing substations and transmission systems.
Specifies electrical equipment and produces drawings for the construction of substations and switching stations.
Ensures designs maintain electrical clearances, proper lightning protection and grounding requirements to provide safe operation of substations and transmission lines under both normal and fault conditions.
Provides technical support during construction and commissioning of electrical systems. Consults with and aids power delivery personnel on maintenance, troubleshooting, and operations of electrical and control systems and equipment.
Develops detailed cost estimates for substation projects for capital budgeting preparation.
Reviews and approves design activities of department engineers and outside consultants. At times may include design activities related to protective relaying and metering.
Reviews and updates AECC Transmission Engineering design standards and technical specifications.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge of related current scientific developments and governmental regulations. Participates in industry study groups. Provides recommendations for application to AECC’s system.
The ability to handle stress and work well with others are essential functions of this position.
Sr Engineer II: Minimum 10 years’ experience required
Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Arkansas; Engineering Intern (E.I.) license in the State of Arkansas.
Experience with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D software
Experience creating technical design standards and reports.
Knowledge of protective relaying schemes & equipment.
Knowledge of SCADA systems and associated industry protocols (DNP, etc.)
Proficient in database development/management.
