Verizon is a leading provider of technology, communications, information and entertainment products, transforming the way we connect across the globe. We’re a diverse network of people driven by our ambition and united in our shared purpose to shape a better future. Here, we have the ability to learn and grow at the speed of technology, and the space to create within every role. Together, we are moving the world forward – and you can too. Dream it. Build it. Do it here.
What you’ll be doing...
You’ll join Verizon’s Device Technology team working on the latest 5G technology feature roadmap planning for mobile devices, fixed wireless access, and emerging 5G form factors. You will interface with many organizations within Verizon and outside the business with external chipset vendors, infra, and OEMs. You will be responsible for overseeing and driving 5G technical requirements, test plans, and feature planning for next-gen 5G device portfolio.
In-depth knowledge of communication theory (RF, channel coding/decoding), antenna theory (mmWave and sub6), LTE and 5G NR air interface (including link budget of each PHY channel, MIMO technology, radio resource management, MAC/HARQ, PDCP, RLC and Layer 3 signaling protocols) and core network (ePC/5GC) and E2E operations of LTE, 5G NR and its interworking with 3G technology (WCDMA/GSM).
Working closely with device OEMs, chipset vendors, infra-vendors, and Verizon business customers to develop program and implementation plans while working collaboratively with internal cross-functional teams.
Working with device OEMs in developing methods, tools, and features to enhance device performance.
Evaluating and developing device requirements, test plans, and test processes to allow for the implementation and verification of Layer 1 (physical Layer), Layer 2 signaling (e.g. NAS, RRC, RLC, MAC), Layer 3 (IPv4 / IPv6) signaling, application layer signaling (SIP, IMS for VoLTE and VoWiFi, SMS over IMS over NR) and Multimedia performance (Jitter, delay, frame loss, etc.) consistent with marketing, network and standards body specifications.
Interfacing with network teams within Verizon, device vendors, chipset vendors and network vendors to develop Layer 2, Layer 3 call flows specific to VZW’s network implementation.
Investigating field issues, provide solutions (UE-based or network-based) and follow up with the teams above for implementation.
Participating in technology trials and evaluations of next generation devices with primary focus on new L2 and application signal protocols and evaluate the trial results.
