What you’ll be doing...
We’re looking for a Software Engineer for our Autonomy Development Centers. You will deploy, modify, and maintain partial or full stack applications related to development of autonomous capability, network and distributed compute enablement and monitoring, and in-house R&D hardware. Additionally, you will help maintain and grow the software side of R&D capabilities such as commercial 3d printing and configurable RF environments. You’ll be working in an exciting startup environment within the foundation of a large company (Verizon). In this role you will be contributing to the future of cellular networked autonomy, edge compute, and R&D capability development. .
Solution identification and architecture.Work with Autonomy Development Center crews and staff to identify analytics and application needs and find viable solutions.
Installation, configuration, and documentation of software.
Work with sourcing and internal IT to determine how to procure, license, and install identified software libraries, frameworks, and applications.
Install, configure, and document those applications.
Installation, configuration, and documentation of hardware.
Work with sourcing and partners to design, procure, and deploy needed hardware.
Configure software interfacing with this hardware, and document overall system usage.
Support and modification. Ensure uptime of systems appropriate for R&D and demonstration, restore systems during outages, deploy appropriate application and data backup solutions, and modify applications as needed for local business needs.
Field ops support. Expect at least 1 field operation per month to support R&D and/or demonstration. These will include multi-day travel, preparation of schedules and packlists for self and possibly team members, and participation in various operational roles such as visual observer, safety officer, or onsite logistics boss.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Experience with self hosted applications.
Five or moreyears of experience deploying, maintaining, customizing, and documenting self-hosted full stack applications by provisioning backing data stores (e.g. mysql, MariaDB, influxdb, elasticsearch or similar) , configuring web services (e.g. httpd, nginx, or similar), and web applications/frameworks (e.g. Grafana, Snipe-IT, Laravel, October CMS, Rocketchat, Laravel).
Experience with in a cloud hosting environment (AWS, Azure, OpenStack, VMWare, etc.).
Experience in Linux hosting operating systems and environments.
Five or more years of experience deploying web applications on Linux OS such as Ubuntu, Debian, Redhat Linux, or similar.
Experience working from command line and over SSH.
Experience with LAMP deployments.
Even better if you have:
Ability to deploy, extend, and maintain analytics and data applications.
Ability to deploy web hosted applications such as Kibana, and deploy and maintain self-hosted file storage applications by configuring secure shares (e.g NFS, SMB, or similar) and also deploying self-hosted solutions such (e.g Seafile, ownCloud, Nextcloud, or similar).
Ability to build basic internal web applications using frameworks.
Ability to build simple and secure internal use applications using existing frameworks such as Laravel, modern front end frameworks, and contemporary visualization libraries.
Proven ability to deploy, configure, and maintain Grafana to include integration of live data feeds and batch processed data sets into a job critical environment where the system was actively used by team personnel or used in production or production-support environment.
Proven ability to build internal or external applications that include role based access control and account management features while also serving business or client functions such as information management, scheduling, or similar.
Experience integrating data from other systems via REST/JSON or other web-based remote-procedure call methodologies/API exchanges.
Abilityto deploy applications, configure servers, and maintain web applications using automation deployment solutions such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Deployer for PHP.
Hosted geoservices experience; ESRI, Mapbox, OSGeo, etc. Geospatial analysis experience.
