Pacific Science & Engineering (PSE) is seeking a highly qualified professional to join our full-time technical staff as a human factors engineer specializing in interactive prototype development.
Successful candidate will serve as a human factors engineer on teams of professionals conducting system research, analysis, and design to address challenging problems of people using complex, computer-based and automated systems.
Candidates should be capable of working flexibly in small multi-disciplinary teams on several concurrent projects, with minimal supervision. Excellent verbal, written, and technical communication skills are necessary. Some travel is necessary. U.S. Citizenship is necessary for this position in order to comply with government contracts requiring successful completion of a security clearance for access to classified information.
Desirable education, knowledge, skills, and demonstrated experience include:
Advanced degree or equivalent work experience in human factors engineering, computer science, software engineering, or similar
Graphical user interface design, software prototype development, and testing
Software design, development, and testing to include full-stack web development, including databases, server-side application programming, and middleware
Client-server and service-oriented architectures
Working with users in operational environments
Human factors standards and methods
Data visualization methods and technologies, and geospatial visualization coding and software (e.g., leaflet, ArcGIS, QGIS) R(Shiny), Python, MATLAB, or JS (D3) for interactive data visualization and scientific programing
Strong mathematical ability or background
Technologies and methodologies to support machine learning, artificial intelligence, computational modeling, discrete event simulation, and related automation (e.g. classification, anomaly detection, clustering, mathematical optimization approaches)
MS Office and analysis software
Three or more years of applied industry experience highly valued
Responsibilities of the position are:
Collaborate on multidisciplinary teams performing human factors research, design, and development
Design and develop interactive graphical user interface software prototypes
Develop, deploy, and maintain multiple web-based applications to be hosted simultaneously on secure local-area network server and accessed simultaneously by local-area network clients
Develop creative and evidence-based solutions to complex, applied problems
Assume responsibilities and contribute at all levels in project teams
