What you’ll be doing...
The SDN Planning group under Verizon Network Technology and Planning organization is looking for a self-motivated and innovative thinking engineer in support of Verizon SDN architecture and technology development and deployment. As a senior level member of technical staff, you will be expected to participate, contribute, and lead open-source development in ODL (OpenDayLight), ONF (Open Networking Foundation) within LFN (Linux Foundation Networking) group, and OpenConfig for code commit, architecture/scaling with focus on network systems/network systems integration, and upstream decision activity in support of Verizon requirement. In addition, you will participate in industry standard data-model development and contribution in SDOs (Standards Developing Organizations) such as IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force), BBF (Broadband Forum), MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum), 3GPP (3rd Generation Partner Project) etc. as required.
Proactive technology research, industry trend analysis, and developing next generation network architecture using modern networking technology (e.g., Software Defined Networking) and providing production deployable solutions are key functions of this position.
Verizon requirements identification, prioritization, advocacy, and influencer within the open-source community and SDOs.
Interacting with software engineers, network/system operations staff, network/system architects, open source community partners, and Standards Developing Organizations to provide SDN technology evolution strategies and solutions to meet Verizon network evolution and business needs.
Provide software/systems architecture and design insights to the open source community for Verizon open source focus areas.
Contribute code and test cases for assigned open source development projects.
Work with open source QA testers for code delivery acceptance.
Provide review and approval for code contributions submitted for Verizon areas open source focus.
Lead the design/development of CI (Continuous Integration) pipelines for Verizon open source focus areas.
For identified strategic areas, serve in a lead open source community role (e.g. project/committee chair or technical lead) to better influence community activity in support of Verizon needs.
Lead design/development/contribution of a micro services architecture for Verizon strategic open source projects with focus on network systems/network systems integration.
Lead design/development/contribution of a service provider grade scaled software/systems architecture solution for Verizon strategic open source projects with focus on network systems/network systems integration.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Strong Industry leadership experience in open source development community and/or Standards Developing Organization (SDO).
Software/systems scaling and microservices architecture development and deployment experience.
OpenAPI and/or data modeling development & implementation experience.
ODL development and deployment experience.
Willingness to travel.
Even better if you have:
MS or PhD degree in Computer Science or EE with modern data communication technology discipline.
More than ten years experience in software/systems development/architecture/design.
Open Networking and SDN deployment experience.
Five or more years of multi-vendor system integration experience.
Five or more years of High Availability (HA) and distributed software/systems architecture development & design.
Five or more years of SDN architecture and technology implementation experience.
Four or more years of 3GPP/4G/5G standards and architecture experience.
Five or more years of Service Provider or big enterprise IP and Optical networking experience.
Strong written & verbal communication skills.
