TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I , Urban Studies and Planning-Senseable City Lab (2 openings), to help explore the opportunities at the intersection between pervasive environmental sensing, urban planning, data visualization, and the Internet of Things (IoT). The City Scanner project is developing a platform which harnesses the power of fleets of low-cost, intelligent, and autonomous vehicular sensors to drive use cases in the field of environmental monitoring, civic engagement, and public health. The project is piloting the platform in several cities around the globe, aiming at characterizing the unique environmental signatures of cities towards the design of novel data-driven use cases and engaging data visualizations. Responsibilities will include developing state-of-the-art IoT components, either for hardware/software sensing modules (e.g., using air quality sensors and thermal cameras) or for data visualization modules and data-driven user experiences (depending on qualifications); designing and implementing data collection studies using the City Scanner technology; publishing, presenting, and disseminating the research to the global community; and collaborating with lab leadership and stakeholders to develop the its future vision and research agenda.
