Job Description As an Engineer, Power Electronics you will be responsible for the analysis, design, development and testing of power conversion hardware for industrial motor drives under the supervision of the Lead Engineer. Generate design specifications and guidelines based on product requirements. Help to define product requirements. Assist laboratory testing and qualification of the product. Participate in project planning activity, scheduling of tasks and assessment of costs. Essential Functions: - Application of electrical circuit and electro-mechanical systems design principles to develop power conversion circuits - rectifiers/inverters, switchmode power supplies, magnetic and filter design.
- Application of simulation tools for the design and troubleshooting of complex power electronics systems - circuit simulation.
- Develop control algorithms on rapid prototyping platforms for concept testing of power conversion hardware.
- Must follow and ensure safe work practices when working with low and medium voltage power hardware.
- Demonstrate excellent technical, oral and written communication skills, and work effectively in a team environment. Participate in project planning and assume responsibility for timely completion of tasks.
- Stay up-to-date with technology advancements in power electronics, components, and design and simulation tools. Assist in developing technology road maps for the business.
- Understand regulatory and certification standards that govern product design.
- Apply DFSS principles for concept selection and robust design.
- Follow company and business policies and procedures, such as the CPD process.
- Learn and use enterprise tools such as SAP.
Basic Qualifications: - B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics.
Desired Qualifications: - Two years of related experience
- Familiar with appropriate engineering tools such as SimplorerPsim, Matlab Simulink, etc.
- Knowledge of analyzing EMC susceptibility and emissions from power conversion products.
- Knowledge of power topologies for medium voltage converters and motor drives.
- Knowledge in electrical power devices such as: IGBT's,SGCT's, SCR's, Switchmode Power Supplies, Bus Structures and Power Capacitors.
- Knowledge in electrical power systems, power system protection, power system transients, insulation coordination and power quality.
- M.S. Degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics.
- Ability of simulation of power converter and motor drive systems.
- Knowledge of U.L., C.S.A., and CE Standards.
- Knowledge of control principal of grid tie converter and/or active front end rectifier design.
- Understanding of electrical and electro-mechanical circuits and systems in all three of the disciplines of analog, digital, and power using simulation tools and procedures.
- Familiar with Design for Six Sigma principals of statistical analysis and problem/solution selection.
- Knowledge of control principal of soft motor starter, adjustable speed drive and power converter designs.
- Knowledge of PCB schematic and layout is an asset.
