Michigan Avenue Job Description: - Architecture and Design - participates in the definition and documentation of requirements, architecture and design of secure, scalable, asynchronous, data access services, based on knowledge of principles of API design, asynchronous processes, service deployment and delivering highly available services.Â
- Software Development - develops, tests, documents, deploys and maintains high-quality software that uses Linux system programming on a cloud-based platform, including REST interfaces, command-line interfaces, and socket-based services; works with other service and client development teams to integrate and design cross-service features.Â
- Support and Documentation - works in close collaboration with the Globus front line support and professional services teams, and directly with end users, to provide technical support services; documents standard operating procedures and protocols.
- Team Coordination and Professional Development - maintains a working knowledge of relevant software technologies being developed and/or used in scientific and commercial communities; contributes to team coordination and development activities, including project planning, project reporting, and recruitment. Â
- Investigates, analyzes and resolves day-to-day technical problems using standard procedures.
- Works with stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements for developmental programs. Receives a moderate level of guidance to design applications to meet University and business requirements.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications Education: - Bachelor's degree in computer science or university degree in related field.
- Advanced degree in computer science or another relevant computer related field.
Experience: - 6+Â years of professional experience in software engineering and delivering large scale systems.
- 3+ years of relevant programming experience developing, implementing, debugging, and maintaining applications with Python.
- Proficient with SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite).
- Outstanding working knowledge with distributed systems and socket level coding.
- Expertise in Linux system programming (e.g. process model).
- Background with AWS.
Preferred Competencies - Working knowledge with C++ programming.
- Web security technologies (e.g. OAuth2, SAML, OpenID Connect and PKI).
- Deployment and operation of a SaaS systems.
- Python web framework (e.g. uwsgi).
- Implementing REST APIâ™s.
- Unit testing and continuous integration tools (e.g. pytest, Jenkins).
- Contributing to an open source project.
- Working with containers (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Singularity).
- Working with shell scripting (e.g., bash).
- Agile (e.g. Scrum) development processes.
- Maintaining and designing software for regulatory compliance requirements (e.g. HIPAA, SOC2, PCI DSS).
- Mastery of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of software development.
