A lot of the work is greenfield development; you will be adding new functionality and making improvements to performance working with a great deal of autonomy across the full development lifecycle within a collaborative, small team environment.

The priority for them is finding someone who fits into the team's culture. Along with the necessary technical skill-set in Java, they look for someone personable and expressive with strong communication skills, as a good part of the job is working with the other teams/external clients - meetings, informal presentations etc.
It's an exciting firm, where there is a flat structure who report into the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The successful candidate will work as part of a larger Technology team developing and supporting proprietary distributed systems, covering: Signal Generation, Portfolio Management, Risk, Trading and Reporting. You will be taking ownership of existing systems and business reports, as well as developing new business functions. This is very much an entrepreneurial role so they need people who are highly motivated and dynamic.
