What you’ll be doing... The BAU Outside Plant Fiber Design Engineer is responsible for Fiber Optic detailed network design for fiber-based networks. It requires an in-depth understanding of current fiber optic design standards and industry processes. It also requires a close coordination with site fielding staff and drafting personnel to support the final product. Typical OSP design responsibilities range from the initial determination of the pathway routing and construction alternatives based on site walk outs to final detailed design generation. The OSP fiber design engineer is fully responsible and accountable for the final design content, budgets, splicing schematics and document generation to support the placement of the physical fiber infrastructure supporting Outside and Inside Plant communication facilities. The BAU Outside Plant Engineer will also be responsible for all legacy and OneFiber fiber networks from North Central to West Texas as well as the Panhandle of Texas. Responsibilities in these networks include BAU and TM (AU) roles. You will manage various projects in the geographic area of responsibility. In addition to this you will be researching network configurations for available paths to support optimum bandwidth for current and future network requirements. You will leverage design, red line and as build documentation to achieve key objectives. Cost analysis, budget and scope of work creation, bidding and awarding projects, project management of all tasks are critical to this role. Your work will entail extensive engagement in nSAP, CCP, Venue, Vbuild and SAP. You will also perform site walks and site surveys as well physical damage assessments so as to verify damaged assets. You will engage with all levels of permitting agencies including, Municipalities, TXDOT, Civil Engineers, customers and contractors. Manage BAU Network for West area - North and West Texas. Create high level preliminary route design and facility specifics to manage fielding request instructions. Support the team and Operations with new design to small cells, Macros, 3rd parties, and ODN. Perform design within allocated budgets and time frames. Provide design lead and Project Managers with updates on progress and roadblocks. Participate in developing process improvement concepts. Designing additions, upgrades, repairs and improvements. Leading large scale complex projects. Managing vendor relationships. Selecting and pricing solutions based on the most effective, efficient, and timely design. Coordinating with internal departments and liaising with residential and business end-users, building contractors, and property owners to implement solutions appropriately. Creating winning outcomes for both us and our customers.
Produce KMZ files for High Level Designs, Notice to Proceeds, Cost estimates, ordering materials and BOMs to build partners Interface with Operations and damaged facility efforts - PDR process and collaboration with key stakeholders for PDR efforts Engage and manage maintenance and or BAU construction vendors for damaged facility repairs. Internal and external customer facing meetings to resolve outside plant issues Perform detailed design in GIS based systems. Support design via any jurisdiction permits drawings required. Understand project milestones. Monitor status of milestones and provide regular updates to Project Manager. Support QC and as built efforts with design changes/updates

You’ll need to have: - Associate’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Three or more years or relevant work experience.
- Willingness to travel.
- Valid Driver’s license.
Even better if you have: - Bachelor's degree in engineering, or experience, that makes the individual uniquely qualified to perform the job responsibilities.
- Related work experience in OSP fiber detailed design & fiber splicing.
- Possess a deep understanding of outside plant fiber optic network infrastructure alternatives available.
- Familiar with construction focused on fiber builds.
- Strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills.
- Flexible and able to think quickly working to resolve design issues and makes decisions.
- Experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Functions as a technical specialist with minimal supervision.
- Extremely proficient in CCP, CoFEE, 3GIS, Excel, ERP, Shopping Cart, nSAP, SAP, Vbuild, Venue, and invoicing preparation.
- Preferred Technical Competencies.
- Fiber Network Planning.
- Fiber routing for aerial and underground installations.
- Manhole design including splicing, racking and conduit structure.
- Design of networks, ODN, CRAN, splicing and fiber terminals.
- Splice testing and analysis OTDR results.
- Expert knowledge in creating and deciphering SEPs.
- Knowledge of construction & constructability practices & principles.
- Knowledge of CAD, GIS based systems, and KMZ files, and MS Excel/MS Access.
