Interns typically work a full-time schedule of 40 hours a week throughout a 10-14-week assignment starting in May of 2021. The Impact You'll Make in this Role 3M is looking for a strong Java Software Engineer internship to assist in the enhancement of a patient matching solution that will improve the existing products within the organization and deliver better healthcare applications. This application uses a RESTful web interface to identify and maintain entities based on data analytics and statistics. This is application performs high volume, transaction processing that will extract, scrub, validate and correct key healthcare data based on extensive analysis of that data. The opportunity to be a member of a dedicated, innovated and creative team of developers that are making a difference is only one of several benefits of this position. You will be a key contributor for this mission critical application and gain a thorough understanding of healthcare transactional data. This application requires new creative techniques and methodologies to be designed and developed. - Design and Development of high quality, efficient, maintainable Java code in a team environment with challenging deadlines

Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for interns who must have the following qualifications: - Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Experience with the Java language
- Experience with Linux
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: - Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in [concentration(s)] from an accredited institution
- Current cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Completed a minimum of junior year (6 semesters) by the start of the assignment
- Experience with using SQL and/or NoSQL databases in design, development and implementation
- Experience with statistical methodologies and techniques is a plus
- Experience with data analysis using SQL, R or other technologies is a plus
