Our applied research centers focus on advanced and sustainable manufacturing, energy, transportation and mobility, remanufacturing and resource recovery, and clean production. We work to develop advanced technologies, sustainable industrial processes and practices, and provide data-informed policy recommendations. Each year, more than 100 companies, governmental bodies, and other organizations engage us on a variety of projects to solve technical problems, innovate products or processes, implement manufacturing technologies, reduce their environmental footprint, or commercialize a new technology. Research center projects are led by full-time professional staff with significant industry experience and access to nearly 90,000 square feet of infrastructure including state-of-the-art labs and testbeds.
Detailed Job Description The Economic & Policy Analyst is responsible for conducting policy and economics research on a variety of topics related to sustainability and circular economy.
The selected candidate will conduct research and other projects, and will contribute their expertise to projects led by other researchers, potentially on other topics.
Duties include, but are not limited to, research and data collection, statistical economic and policy analysis, and evaluation and interpretation of results. The Analyst will assist in writing research reports and other publications and documents, and will provide input for reports and documents of other team members. The Analyst may also help to develop proposals for new project funding.
The major responsibilities of this position are:
Provide input to teams within the Golisano Institute for Sustainability that are conducting research.
Conduct research and data collection, statistical economic and policy analysis, and evaluation and interpretation of results.
Assists with developing proposals for new project funding and design research and evaluation studies.
Develop case studies, economic trend and policy briefings for internal use, and research papers, and contribute to articles and other publications for a range of audiences.
Helps to manage research projects and interacts with research partners.
Assists in building internal capacity on sustainability and circular economy policy within GIS.
Identify and develop relationships with additional economic and policy experts, academics, and practitioners who can contribute to our understanding of relevant issues or collaborate with us in advancing our goals.
Required Minimum Qualifications A Master's degree in relevant field (e.g. economics, political science, law, or environment) and 2-3 years of experience conducting economic and policy research in a related field.
PhD in relevant field (e.g. economics, political science, law, environment)

Knowledge and understanding of the theories, concepts, and approaches relevant to international trade; additionally, knowledge and understanding of sustainability and/or manufacturing concepts preferred.
Ability to develop sources for data collection; familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet and other databases.
Interest and ability in working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Comfortable soliciting input, valuing others ideas and expertise.
Ability to translate complicated economic and policy issues into laypersons language.
Excellent strategic thinker and enjoys exploring new topics.
Comfortable working both independently and cooperatively with other team members and project partners.
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred education and experience:
PhD in related field strongly preferred.
Experience writing sponsored research proposals in response to requests for proposals.
