![]() Director of Research-Image Permanence Institute 5408BR College of Art and Design CAD Image Permanence Institute Professional Area: Employment Category: Fulltime Staff Job Function: Wage Band: Department/College Description The Image Permanence Institute (IPI) is a research center in the College of Art and Design at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) dedicated to supporting the preservation of cultural heritage collections in libraries, archives, and museums around the world. IPI achieves this mission by maintaining an active preservation research program that informs and advances professional-level education and training activities, publications, consulting services, and the development of practical preservation resources and tools. Detailed Job Description The Image Permanence Institute (IPI) is looking for an accomplished and experienced scientist with preservation research and leadership experience to lead IPI's research program. The Director of Research will direct research and scholarship goals and collaborate closely with IPI's Executive Director on long-range institutional planning and fundraising. The successful candidate will also pursue individual research and scholarly activities and be expected to guide new and transformative areas of preservation research. IPI is a collaborative work environment and in addition to supervising research staff, the Director of Research will partner with publication, web development, preservation consultant, and operations staff as needed to develop research findings into practical preservation resources, educational programs, and tools. Major Responsibilities:
Required Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated independent research work evidenced by publications, inventions, project leadership, or equivalent efforts. Demonstrated project management experience including ability to lead or supervise work of others, and determine and manage scope, goals, feasibility, progress, report out, etc. Ability to secure funding from external entities including self-support. Expert knowledge of research methods and analytical procedures. Ability to publish peer reviewed publications, technical articles, white papers, presentations, etc. Ability to manage existing, and cultivate new, relationships with sponsors and stakeholders.
