The Board of Trustees of IEC is seeking a strategic and innovative leader with the ability to lead change and manage risk to become their next General Manager. IEC has retained NRECA’s Executive Search Group to facilitate the search process.
IEC is a member-owned, non-profit distribution cooperative, that supplies electric service to its members in seven north-central and northeastern Oklahoma counties including Pawnee, Osage, Creek, Payne, Noble, Kay and Tulsa. IEC provides almost 14,000 members with service to 18,245 homes and businesses through 3,516 miles of distribution line covering a service territory of 2,500 square miles. IEC employs 79 people and has headquarters in Cleveland, OK and a district office in Fairfax, OK.
Successful GM candidates will have a strong background in working in an electric distribution cooperative environment, with a particular focus on safety with a strong financial acumen is a plus. Industry knowledge and leadership, the ability to build teams and develop employees in addition to demonstrated leadership skills are key attributes.
Candidates are required to have at least 5 years of experience in the electric utility industry with a minimum of 5-10 years of overall leadership experience. Previous CEO/GM experience at an electric utility is definitely a benefit. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, electrical engineering, accounting and finance, or related degree is preferred. An advanced degree and previous participation in NRECA’s Management Internship Program (MIP) are preferred differentiators.
Candidates should have broad electric utility management experience and knowledge that includes such areas as accounting and finance; electrical engineering, operations and safety; team building, and external leadership. Cooperative experience and understanding of economic development needs are preferred.
The cooperative is headquartered in Cleveland, OK, which has a population of just over 3,200 residents. Located 34 miles away is the city of Tulsa, once considered the oil capital of the world, "T-Town" has developed into a vibrant (albeit small), modern metro area. Straddling the South, Southwest and Midwest regions of the country, Tulsa is home to a distinct culture comprised of the best characteristics of each of these regions, in addition to Native American and cowboy heritage.
