Onsite leadership of a distributed team developing innovative intelligent fisheries monitoring systems. Lead machine learning algorithm advancement and development for real-time systems for automated catch event detection, length measurement, and species identification. Assist with system(s) functionality and hardware design of several intelligent fisheries monitoring systems (IMS) systems by building on previous NOAA Fisheries advancements of both non-camera and camera-based systems, methods, and tools.
* In collaboration with others, review (NOAA provided) the hardware and software image collection system currently used for remote port sampling. * In collaboration with others, develop version 1.0 of a rugged toolkit (suitcase) for capturing individual fishing quota (IFQ) species, and other bycatch images using cameras in a high quality, reliable and scientific manner to augment the training of evolving AI/ML systems * In collaboration with others, compile, write, and publish technical engineering documentation to guide future Electronic Monitoring (EM) providers and researchers for development and deployment of future monitoring systems that integrate real time automation, including an operation manual for the open source operating system (OS). * In collaboration with others, review NOAA provided hardware and software system to improve optical and hardware performance * In collaboration with others, test new advanced polarizing, infrared, other camera properties integrated with system. * In collaboration with others, test alternative hardware configurations to improve parallel processing capabilities. * Disseminate results in archival literature via journals and conferences. * Disseminate results via oral presentations at conferences and local meetings. * Other duties as assigned
* Appointment to this position requires an earned doctorate in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely related field. * In-depth knowledge of computing systems * Good working ability with C++ and GitHub
* Experience in real-time computing systems * Understanding of fish physical characteristics
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
The work location will either be Stennis Space Center, MS or Pascagoula, MS.
