Senior Administrator-Linux Systems

Position Summary The Sr. Systems Administrator will support the instructional computing in the Electrical Engineering (EE) Department in the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science. In cooperation with faculty, the candidate will provide daily support for the EE Department's student computer labs, as well as provide computing infrastructure maintenance and plan upgrades. The workstations are mostly Linux machines and the server infrastructure consists of Linux and Windows servers network-attached storage. Some courses also use commercial cloud computing platforms. The instructional computer labs are used for undergraduate and graduate courses that support ~350 students. Secondary responsibilities include: advising faculty and research groups on IT matters; providing technical services for departmental administrative staff; collaborating with other IT groups across the university to back-up and synchronize critical data, to insure security of sensitive data, to protect systems against external attacks and to improve system performance. The position provides many opportunities for professional development, including interaction with students and faculty on research and teaching.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Minimum 4-6 years' related experience
ADDITIONAL POSITION-SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
4+ years' Linux system administration experience. Solid understanding of Linux-based software service programs such as Apache, NFS, DHCP, Bind/DNS, LDAP, Samba; knowledge of DHCP, network storage and RAID disk arrays; the ability to provision VM's and network storage; Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and security issues; experience in securing workstations, servers, desktops and networks; experience using automated tools to install and upgrade large numbers of workstations and create and maintain user accounts; Ability to program and do shell scripting, e.g., in Perl, PHP, Python and/or PowerShell. Candidate must have ability to work independently, learn quickly, and be reliable and responsive to the students and faculty in the instructional labs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and influencing skills, and technical expertise. Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects. Ability to be precise and attentive to detail is essential. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work weekend and off-hour work on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with installing, configuring and maintaining specialized electrical engineering design and simulation software such as Cadence, Mentor Graphics, and Synopsys is a plus.
