Under limited supervision, performs work required to comply with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Operations & Planning (O&P) Reliability Standards. Duties include: write/review policies and procedures, interpretation of compliance requirements, track Standard revisions, provide audit documentation, guide violation mitigations. Works in a small team environment involving the monitoring and analysis of compliance evidence.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university in electrical engineering, or related field; five to eight years of progressively responsible related experience in electric utility engineering, planning, operations or field experience; or; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Working experience in NERC reliability standards compliance and Electric System Operations highly desired. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of design, engineering, maintenance, operation and planning of electric power systems; Electrical system operations and practices and their effect on reliability; NERC Reliability Standards, particularly TO, TOP, COM, EOP, MOD, FAC, PRC, PER, TPL, VAR Standards; Applicable state, federal and local laws, rules and regulations. Ability to: Review and update Engineering/Operations/Transmission & Distribution policies/procedures to conform to NERC Standards, and incorporate the production & retention of evidence needed to show compliance with NERC Reliability Standards; Perform duties of Subject Matter Expert (SME) on select O&P NERC Reliability Standards, providing evidence of compliance; Review O&P NERC Reliability Standard compliance evidence provided by SMEs, determine adequacy, suggest revisions and work with SMEs to provide evidence that meets compliance; Produce training materials, train personnel on procedures and NERC compliance requirements; Track NERC Reliability Standard Revisions; Provide comments through the NERC Standard revision process teams based on SME input; Participate in Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO) and NERC meetings and seminars to determine acceptable evidence to meet compliance requirements; Communicate requirements to assigned SMEs and management; Work with staff and SMEs to interpret violations from audits and develop policies/procedures/action plans necessary for mitigation and to foster an environment of continuous improvement to operations and reliability; Assist staff and IPL NERC Teams with development of communication to management on NERC compliance initiatives and implications of those initiatives; Research, analyze, and summarize a variety of informational and statistical data and materials within deadlines set both internally and externally.
Typical Working Conditions: The incumbent’s working conditions will normally be relatively quiet indoor activities, but outdoor work may be required at a moment’s notice in all types of weather. This position may require work beyond normal working hours.
