The position is responsible for manufacturing of precision optical components using the latest CNC technologies. Items include but are not limited to Aspherical Lenses, spherical lenses, Mirrors etc. made form specialty glasses and crystals. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other ThorLabs locations. Working hours are from 10pm - 7am.
Essential Job Functionsinclude the following, but are not limited to:
Perform all aspects of CNC / optical fabrication including grinding, polishing, surfacing, cleaning and inspection
Set up and adjustment of CNC machinery from supplied data without supervision
Installs all required tooling from tooling data and set-up instructions
Understands ISO9001 and MIL-PRF-13830B manufacturing standards.
Select and adjust tooling changes as needed without supervision
Read and understand spec sheets, blue prints, work orders and work instructions
Perform visual inspections of optics for defects related to fabrication.
Perform optical tests including interferometry and profilometer tests to determine optical quality
Perform cleaning operations to keep work area machinery maintained
Keeps supervisor apprised of unresolved and/or potential problems that would negatively affect production schedules.
Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar position preferred.
High School diploma or equivalent

Good manual dexterity
Strong attention to detail
Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere, and comply with high quality standards.
Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address changing production priorities.
