The Departments of Statistics, and Operations, Information and Decisions (OID) of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, are seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral Researcher position under the supervision of Professors Edgar Dobriban, Eric Tchetgen Tchetgen (Statistics), and Steven O. Kimbrough (OID). The position is designed to be a career-building step for new scholars. The primary focus is for the scholar to develop her/his research program. The earliest start would be June 2020, and the position will continue for two years. A competitive stipend will be provided. This position is contingent upon funding.
The work will be part of the newly established Wharton Energy Analytics Lab, and is expected to have a high visibility. Successful candidates will have opportunities to submit papers to top statistics, operations research, and energy journals, as well as leading machine learning conferences. The candidates will also present their research at conferences in these fields.
Candidates should show outstanding capacity for research in the development of statistical, machine learning, and operations research methods, and/or in their application in energy analytics. The position will involve innovative research in the development and application of data analytics methods--statistical and machine learning, causal inference, optimization, and market design--to renewable energy. Therefore, expertise on some of these is required, and willingness to learn the rest is expected. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the research, we encourage applications from individuals with diverse skills, including computational data analytics, statistical modelling, etc.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in statistics, operations research, energy systems, electrical engineering, applied math, computer science or a related field from an accredited institution.
